Leopold is from Austria. He was given a choice between joining the Nazis or leave his religion. He just needed to sign a paper and get free. He had studied the Bible and found that the Christians should be peacemakers, not killing others just because some leader said so. He knew that Jesus had taught his followers to even love their enemies. Leopold chose to follow the Bible even if it meant that he could be killed or stay in a Concentration Camp suffering from hunger, working hard, and as so many others, suffering from violence. He is still active and visits schools and tells the children to follow their conchience instead of giving away to peer pressure. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2233389/Oldest-living-concentration-camp-survivor-107-year-old-Christian.html http://www.catholic.org/hf/faith/story.php?id=48556 Thousands others did what Leopold did and many lost their lives. It seems that God can give strength to do the right thing, even under extremely hard circumstances. What do you think??

Hi buenavida greetings. Leopold is one among many throughout history who suffered the cruelty of man to his fellow human beings.

I think that if we were all as strong as Leopold it would be a very different and better world. We would stand for what we believe in without being aggressive and would no longer have crooked politicians or corporate crime. If everyone stuck to their convictions like Leopold and had his ethics there would be very few welfare recipients, the poor would be able to escape their poverty. In short, if everyone had Leopold's strength and conviction the world would be as close to paradise as it will ever get. I hope Leopold enjoys his life up until the last moment and leaves peacefully, surrounding by many who love him.

The world would definitely be a better place if we followd the same Bible principle as he did. And he also believes that the world will be a wonderful paradise soon and without any wars. Here is a story I just found about the oldest woman in France: http://www.jw.org/en/news/by-region/europe/france/irenise-moulonguet-centenarian/

Yes, if we sincerely want to do God's will, he can use us in the way he wants - Leopold is a faithful witness of that. There are millions who have the same positive look at life as he has. This site can be good to bookmark and visit now and then: http://www.jw.org/en/news/

He is an extraordinary person to have the will and perseverance to survive all those horrors. It also brings forth the moral question to so many people during that time, that they did have a choice. They just chose the easy way out, which was to join the Nazis. My stomach still churns over when I watch or see pictures of the holocaust. I am not that religious, but to see so many people being exterminated because one person deemed their religion and people to be an inferior race sickens me. I may not watch the movie, not because I don't like it. But rather I may not endure watching it in the movie theater and see on the big screen how horrific their ordeals were.

I can understand you if you don't want to see the movie. I am not sure if I can either, but reading about this survivor and his positive view of life encourages me to keep doing God's will and continue studying the Bible, as there is a lot to learn there. Reminds me of what Jesus said: "“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."Matthew 7:21 (New International Version)

He's a great person. Not everyone can do what he did in the name of religion. I believe that God is with him and he has a purpose in this life. Imagine his age, his body may be weak- but he never gave up his faith.

It's amazing that he could stay faithful. That is what God expects of us. I do t know if I could be as faithful. I would like to think so, but I doubt I could have survived what that man did.

Hi, PQ If we trust in ourselves only, we cannot do much. In situations like this we need the help from God, who can see our sincere wish to obey him and can strengthen us with his spirit. What these people did was sending many prayers to God and he really helped them.
