My laptop is not working when I choose start windows normally. But in the "safe mode with networking" option, it starts up and i can use it. But I don't think that it is okay to use it in safe mode every time. I'm not sure though. But what I want to know is can I download OS on the internet and save it in a flash drive and use it to reformat my laptop. I think my OS has been corrupted and I can't use a CD to install new OS because my CD ROM is also busted and not working since my son stuck a hair clip inside. So can anyone here on mylot answer my question? I really want to use my laptop in normal mode and I also want to use the sleep mode again.

You can reinstall your OS from online. You did not say what your OS is, but you can go to the site online and use your registration number to reinstall your OS..I have done it with WindowsXP on my own computer and Windows 7 for a neighbor. The download from online works just fine.

My OS is Windows Vista.I hope your suggestion will work for me. Because I really want to fix my laptop. I don't want to bring it to a technician because they charge so much and sometimes other technician will replace some part of your computer with a lower version without your permission. Well I tried searching online just now. Can you tell me what is the website where you're getting your OS from? Thanks for your response

you can get your laptop back in normal mode.,if you have your windows vista os cd.just create a image of your os disk by using a image burning software.after that create a booting usb using pendrive and you are done.now you can install your os anytime with pen drive.

Hi, You may use an external DVD drive for that. Try the one that connects to a USB port, pop in the OS disk and you're ready to go.

I have read all the responses above, so there is one more thing you could try before resorting to such measures. Try restoring your computer to an earlier date, it could be possible that a file in your registry is corrupted. Note you can only restore your computer if you created a restore point in the past. Just check though, start the restoration process after starting in safe mode, if you can't find a restore point then you will need to use the other responders suggestions. Also you could use the flash drive but your computer would have to be compatible to be booted from a flash drive.
