Does he really believe that any of the plans he's trying to implement would have stopped the Conn. killings. The nutcase that did that got the weapons from his law abiding mother. He would have done it anyways. People need to take a breath and think about things. The criminals and mentally disturbed will get their guns no matter what. Making it harder for regular, law abiding citizens will not stop bad people from doing bad things.

The ban on high capacity magazines would have limited the amount of people killed. Unfortunately, it probably wouldn't have stopped him from using the assault rifle because the NRA and the manufacture would just find ways around the law, like they did in the 90's. But, I am sure if you asked one of the parents if they could have a chance to have their kids back, they would agree with this law.

I have heard it said that the second amendment is there as a guarantee for the first amendment.

In situations like this, especially with children being killed, people don't think beyond the moment.

Law-abiding citizens and the government should be wiser than these criminals. We cannot continue to be outwitted by these mentally ill people. Let us all join hands and do something to outwit these crazy killers. Think, think, think and act.

If assault weapons are going to be banned, I hope that the violence is going to be banned on movies, TV and on video games, etc. It is not necessary to watch violent movies and they are not a good influence on children or teenagers. Children should not grow up thinking that violence is normal. So, if the assault weapons are going to be banned, then the violence in movies needs to be banned. That only makes sense.

It makes people think that something is being done about this horrible problem. The fact that it is not addressing the real problem is not apparent to the majority of people. When the president or other public figures do things like this, it means that they can ignore the real problems for awhile and lull the public into a false sense of security. All the while, he's eroding the second amendment and people who value safety over freedom are perfectly content for him to do so.
Addressing the real problem would require some actual thought and some tough changes.
Someday soon the nation will awake and discover that there is very little freedom.

As a parent, even though I'm going to sound like a militant, my response to those killings was come on with the police patrol and bullet proof windows. I agree, this guy was going to do something, regardless. But the ironic thing is, in the inner city, the schools are unattractive with their bullet proof windows, no ground floor windows, security roaming the parameters, etc. This school was so at ease, like a lot of suburban schools, with its beautiful glass windows, no security in site, etc... But mass killings in schools don't happen in the inner city, at least not like they do in these "beautiful" areas where they have their guard down so low.
