There is so much to learn

About the time I run into someone that states that they don't have anything else to learn, I have something new to either interest me or something happens with my health. This time it is something with my health and what happened with the pain doctor today. I have been having chest pain the past couple of nights. My blood pressure meds aren't helping ease the pain. I went to the pain clinic today for a regular appointment...in my warped way of thinking since I am going to a pain clinic they should be able to help me with my pain...right??? I keep forgetting that I live in an area where there is a huge concentration of people who either don't care or just don't have the thinking power to help someone. I told the doctor about the chest pain, which is a squeezing pain in the chest and it wakes me up at night for the past two nights. I'm not dizzy or nauseated but I am in pain. I also stated that I had to struggle to get to the bathroom to "P". He listened to me, glanced at the paperwork with the information about my heart problem, cleared his throat several times and then looked at me and told me I had "GAS" I looked at the man and told him that I can fart better than an 18 wheeler going down a steep grade!!! That I only had a bit of a problem with gas when I was pregnant with my daughter, but the biggest problem there was that it stunk like a septic tank when I farted! Shoot, I could fart so well that if you poured a box of bb's in my fanny you could bend me over and use me as a machine gun!!! Gas now...no way! I walked out of the exam room with a prescription for Gas X. I got to the appointment desk and tore it up and dropped it on the receptionist's desk. She looked at me funny because I don't get that aggravated too often. When I told her what happened she tried not to laugh but when I told her about being used a machine gun while I was pregnant, she totally lost it. I took matters into my own hands and doubled up on the blood pressure medication in hopes to get a good nights sleep. I may get a better sleep...or longer one...but I couldn't handle the gas comment and the pain. So, fellow MyLotters, remember that as you grow older the only thing "golden" about your old age is your urine!

Maggiepie went to the doc at a "free" clinic with a problem... MANY years later an ER doc figured out the problem... but this guy told her that she was having "female problems." not even close!

Unfortunately the television programs depict excellent doctors spending time at free clinics helping the less advantaged. It's a load of manure!! The sliding scale clinic I have to go to because of my insurance gets some really interesting doctors! I had one that had his breath arrive before he did. He came in and I nearly yacked on the spot. Then I thought it might be my breath...when he left the horrible odor went with him. I promptly told the receptionist that I didn't want that guy again. He decided to check out my left leg (the one which had the knee replacement) and tried to bend it in positions that it didn't go into before the replacement...I couldn't walk without the walker for three weeks from that visit. I did invest in industrial strength breath mints just in case I ran into him again. Then the next doctor told me that my chest pain was constipation....Humm, that would put my number two hole in my belly button!! The doctors in my area are the reason that I make the long trip to Stanford hospital nearly every month. I just emailed my doctor up there to let her know I was still alive.... Hug Maggiepie for me. I haven't had a chance to respond to her response. BTW, would you like the election pin for the last presidential election? I have two and thought you might like to have the other one...that's was all the cloak and dagger stuff...just send me a PM if you would like it, I would love for you to have it.

Yes on the pin! I'll PM you my address! Yikes... Actually, Maggie went to one free clinic, at the recommendation of a nurse friend of ours who also volunteered there, and the doctor was good, sadly the clinic is no more... She went in because her knees were hurting and red, he discovered she had high blood pressure. a few months of pills and cutting down on salt and her blood pressure was normal again.

That doctor is an idiot. I am concerned that this may be a heart attack. Heart attack symptoms are different for women than they are for men. See: http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/features/do-you-know-which-symptoms-signal-a-heart-attack-in-women I would suggest going to the Emergency Room.

When I woke up I thought the same thing! After I got my emotions and worry under control I promptly went through the signs. I also remembered what the doctor said about the bridge. I had it happen before and it had been caused by stress. This time it was from too much salt. With the bridge being through the muscle it is easy for the pain to come. If I stress out too much or eat too much salt the muscle will constrict and narrow the amount of blood flow back into the heart, and this is the oxygenated blood coming from the lungs so it causes so much more pain than normal. After I took an extra blood pressure pill the pain eased off. But like you said it could have been a heart attack. I do need to refresh my knowledge of heart attacks and keep it with me. As one doctor said, I am a heart attack waiting to happen! Fortunately the medication is helping enormously and I am doing so much better. I have a direct link to my doctor at Stanford University Hospital and sent her information about the situation. She agreed with me about the salt...I had mango salsa that was made by a Hispanic that knows really great salsa, and it might have been just a bit too much salt. Thank you so very very much for the information and concern! It does mean a lot! I am going directly to the site that you posted right after I post this comment.

I'm glad that you have that direct link to your doctor. Often, women ignore signs of trouble... or their doctors do. I lost a friend a couple of years ago who should still be here; she'd been displaying warning signs for a while, and her doctor completely ignored the possibility that it could be her heart.

Oh loverbear, I love your descriptive stories, but this one I probably could have done without.. As you know, I am no doctor and science and math is my worse subjects, (you need good math/science skill to be a doctor) but I wonder how gas would cause chest pain? I mean one is lower in the body than the other, unless I am missing something.. Though I am against you doubling up on your blood pressure meds, that can't be good, you need to find a more natural remedy. Do you use fresh ginger? Though not a "cure all" it is good for many ailments...

Wow, that was some dream.. As for the ginger, let me rephrase that, I meant ginger root, and if it is organic, that would be even better.
