I know almost all people here recognized the instant noodles. I just imagine how could my family survive life without instant noodles. When we have don't have lots of budget for food, it's expected to see lots of noodles around.
Have any Filipinos figured out the reasons why Royal instant chicken noodles are not available in the market anymore? No noodles taste like it so far with sesame oil and the parsley leaves. It's my favorite. I also remember the Royco noodles shape like alphabets that is not around anymore.
However, the Lucky me instant pancit canton is the best and also their beef noodles, the chicken noodles not so good really. I don't miss the Maggi noodles because it's just salty.

I wasn't able to try the noodles that you mentioned. I did tried maggi before they chose to phase it out. Anyway, I am also fond of eating instant noodles but only when it can't be avoided. Instant noodles, if eaten more than moderately can be harmful. It's full of preservatives plus it's got high MSG content. Anyway, whenever we go camping or trekking, or have study groups, we always make sure we have some instant noodles handy. It's an easy meal on its own and it is heavy enough to make us full and be energized for a while.

Noodles are really handy for camping and emergency situation. They are easy to cook so you won't get hungry when you are away from home.

Maggi masala, is that Indian noodles? Maggi noodles are long gone here. They have no commercials anymore and does taste close to the real noodles.

I like eating instant noodles. Some people think they are junk food but I don't think so. After all, you can cook them even if they are instant noodles. They taste better after cooking. And it takes a few minutes and all will be done. You can add less seasoning for the instant noodles if you want to eat it in a healthier way.

It can be addicting but some believes its too salty so I am quite worried to eat them often.

I can't say that instant noodles are really a staple in our house, but they are something that we will consume on a fairly regular basis because of the fact that they are very inexpensive.
You know I never thought about using them in other ways than the way that they are intended until I met my best friend when I was 19 years old and she made a stir fry/stew using the instant noodles as the base for the meal. This is, I have to say, one of the best things that I've ever eaten in my life.

It's a staple food here I guess, in fact I can't imagine life without them. Stir/fry stew, that sounds great.

I wonder why you eat food like that. Is it that cheap? Over here it's not. For the price you have to pay for 1 small cup you can cook it yourself for 4-6 people. We have many different kinds over here (the Netherlands) as well but I can't say it's tasty at all. Perhaps you can buy the alphabet yourself and add it to... I assume (like it is with most kind of food) that if something is not selling good enough in your country they will not sell it anymore. Which doesn't mean you can't buy it abroad. I see the same thing over here. What I like they do sell in Germany and Hungary but not in the Netherlands. Must say the shops do sell less and less...and less choice as well. Think most people don't have the money for it anymore.

It is cheap because it can feed around 4 people at half the price of regular food cooking.

Instant noodles by themselves is not so healthy. When my family eats them, they add meat and frozen vegetables. At least they are getting something healthy with the noodles. I don't eat the instant noodles because they are too salty for me.

I used to eat them more often than I do now because of health reasons. I still eat them now and then just because I like them. I usually cook a few frozen vegetables first, then cut up small portions of chicken or something and an egg, or sometimes just an egg.
Now I'm hungry for them!

Here, most people eat the noodles plain but I like the way to make it more real food is by adding frozen vegetables, chicken meat and egg. That's great.

If I recall Royal or Royco closed down in the early 90's or late 80's. I don't exactly know why, but I guess operational costs became too much for most factories here in our country because that was the time that we had six to eight hours (sometimes more) of power outages. This was the time in between Cory Aquino and Fidel Ramos. Royal didn't survive because they were a local company unlike other companies that time. It was also the time where most of our export garments, stuffed toys (Cabbage Patch..I bet you didn't know Cabbage Patch dolls were made here in the Philippines) closed shop because there was no power to run the factories, companies couldn't meet their deadlines, a lot of people lost their jobs.
I also miss the taste of Royco noodles. They even have a tomato based noodle soup that I loved so much. It's just sad that it's no longer available and most instant noodles we have today are way too salty. Have you read the package nutrition info? One pack alone is more than your daily requirement for salt or sodium. And I know you don't like Maggi, but their sodium content is lower in spite of it's saltier taste as you say. I don't eat instant noodles anymore due to my hypertension. But before, I used to chop pechay leaves and add it to my instant noodles. Instant nilaga for me.

I believe that's the best explanation why I don't see them anymore. I haven't taste a tomato based noodle soup and noodles with pechay.

I do not think living on instant noodle is a good choice. Though the instant nood is usually cheaper than common food, it is not a green food, containing less nutrition for body. If you are in a tight budget, I think you can try to buy more food material and prepare the dishes by yourself, so that you can save more.
If you do not have time to prepare food everyday, you can make enough rice balls in the weekend and put fresh vegetable into fridge. So that you can use your microwave oven to heat the rice ball and use the vegetable to make a salad or soup for the meal. I think that may be better than instant noodle and will not cost you too much.

That's a good suggestion. There are actually good alternatives but since we have them in the market we don't explore other possible alternatives. They are not real food.

There are other foods that are healthier than instant noodles that are inexpensive. Lentils and split peas are two such foods that come to mind. Dried beans are another such food.
If you are a good cook, you can eat very well even without a tight budget. If you can grow some of your own food, it helps even more; unfortunately for me, I do not do well with growing things.

Yeah, that's true but people are used to have them because they cook as fast as 2 minutes. It's for those who don't have a lot of time to cook their food and also on a tight budget.

Is that true? Lots of people have urinary tract infections now. I believe because of salty foods.

I think I remember those Royal noodles when they were still out in the market. You're right, I don't see them in grocery stores anymore. Maybe they went out of business or something. I do love Lucky Me instant pancit canton and it is my 2nd favorite food for breakfast if there's no bacon/hotdog and eggs.

As far as I remember there were 2 top brands -the Royal and Maggi noodles around 80's to 90's. Then Lucky me noodles came out in the market with their best beef noodles that taste better than the Royal and Maggi version. After that I don't see Royal noodles anymore. We also have the Payless noodles which is out of the market too. Nissin's Lucky me dominated the instant noodle industry.

We rarely eat instant noodles anymore. That's because it was publicized on the newspaper as one of the 10 foods that are not good for the health because of its preservatives.
Even when our daughter was just a kid, we only give her noodles, once in a while. That's because the doctor prohibited us from giving her that, because she said it's laden with preservatives. In fact, some children would vomit after eating a bowl of noodles.
Maybe it's because of the preservatives.

We don't eat them often too. Now we have patola plant we always add vegetables on it. I plan to buy lots of cabbage and carrots or even potatoes so we can add vegetables on it and never eat it plain noodles. Some parents would always feed their children with instant noodles because it's quick to serve.

I like instant noodles, too, especially as I still yet to learn how to cook properly... I'm trying, but it's good to start out by preprocessed food like that... it's easy, relatively good (I don't have a fussy and posh taste in food, either), fast... I like paprika chicken ones the best, but last time I saw a cheese sauce one in the shops, it was a new one, I wanna try that too!

When I was working I used to eat instant noodles every night because its very easy to cook,i just add one egg and some vegetables to make it more delicious and healthy. But now that I am working home based i have lots of time to cook and my husband requested not to eat instant noodles as much as possible for some health reason.

Wow, every night! We will be scolded if we often eat those instant noodles because for us they are like junk foods that have flavorings like chiz curls and corn chips.

I love noodles., and also my son loves it.. I cook it and put some egg on it to make it more healthier and nutritious to eat.. some people put some vegetable on it like carrots and cabbage.. it is a great thing that we have instant noodles but we should not also forget to eat fresh food let's not depend on instant because it is better to absorb the nutrients needed by our body from fresh food..

I guess that is the healthier way to eat noodles too. You can add scrambled eggs, carrots and cabbage or potatoes.

Instan noodles and pancit canton are not my favorite but they are so helpful especially when I was working before and rendering ovetimes or working nightshifts. It's the easiest way to feed my stomach in a very short period of time and keeps me awake at night. It helps my stomach feel full without making me feel sleepy during my nightshifts.
