I do like to eat something sweet after a meal but I am pretty sure that it's not good for you.I have never heard that eating sweet things after eating a meal helps your body to digest the food before.Im not saying that it isn't true as any processes the body does requires energy usually in the form of glucose.Glucose in sweet things is in an easy release form so eating them probably helps to speed up the digestion process.Though any health benefits will be outweighed by all the health problems that eating to many sweet things such as obesity and dental problems.Though the thing that aids digestion the most is fibre which isn't found in sweet foods. Its found in things like veggetables and brown bread.

Hi jricky
Recently while i was watching a program in TV about Ayurveda there they mentioned that eating sweets before the meal is good.In that program they mentioned and gave a reason " A sweet should be eaten first. It enables flow of digestive secretions easier. If it is eaten after another food item, it being heavier, slows the digestive process, allowing undigested food mass to form and ferment. Sour foods eaten in the middle of the meal and astringent drinks after the meal improve digestion".

I never did understand eating something sweet after a meal, particularly dinner. Our family typically just finishes the meal and the feeling of digestion in our stomachs. Sweets do feel good though, but it's really not necessary. I guess it's kind of more of a 'situational' type of thing.

I hope that it is good to eat sweets after a meal. We often do. It just takes so good to have some type of sweet food after eating a meal. I just have to be careful because I would love to bake and make a lot of different things but I don't want to end up gaining weight so it's important to be balanced. Although I would enjoy baking almost every day.

Well, our brains run solely on glucose, but I think we should choose healthier options of where our brain is getting it's energy from. We should probably be eating complex carbs (oatmeal, sprouted grains, fresh fruits and vegetables) instead of cakes and pies.
When we eat candy bars and other baked goods, the glucose goes right to our brain, but their are little nutrients. Our brains don't care where the glucose comes from. A candy bar will give us about 20 minutes of energy and it goes right to the brain. That's all great, but after those 20 minutes we are going to need more energy.
When we eat complex carbs, the glucose is released slower and will last longer and it has all kinds of vitamins and nutrients for our body. This of course is the better option. Slower absorbing carbs and sugars are much better
