I have horrible veins

I went in for my iron infusions, and I think the nurse I actually had was new. I am only guessing seeing as she was horrible with the needle. I was asked when I went to get a hot chocolate after down the road if I was a junky because of the needle marks up my arms. She stuck the needle in about 10 different spots, and then pulling it out, then trying again. I will admit my veins are semi hard to find, I pointed out 3 which they always use, and hit the first time. Nope I am bruised all up both arms. She then got another nurse, who got it in finally in the spot I originally pointed out. All I was thinking was thank god I am not afraid of needles.

hi Ricki I sympathize as the last tinme I w as in the hospital for three days they had continuous IVs running and the thing infiltrated meaning the fluid was just going under my skine and hyrt onmy G . so the other nurse comes in and sticks me then =again then again and gives up and gets the head nurse who comes in sees a good vein and is in and done, now the night person form the lab came in to draw some blood and he was in and out and done in one minute. How come the nurses cannot learn that technique?

It was the same way, this nurse tried over and over again. I know my veins can be hard to find, but I gave her the usual veins to use, and she still couldn't get them. But I think she was new as she seemed nervous, and frustrated.

OMG that is just awful! My veins are difficult also, but I give them 2 chances, if they miss after the second time I leave and come back another day and make sure I don't get the same person. I too have one vein on top of my right hand that is good, fortunately they usually listen to me and go there and don't have a problem. I've been bruised so many times, makes me wonder how these people ever graduated. I'm not afraid of needles, but they do make me woozy if its not done right (the first time).

I had to get my infusion, if I miss it, I get booted out, and have to wait another 6 months to get into a specialists, and start from the beginning, I have 2 more rounds and am done, not worth chansing it.

I have really big veins so I will never run into this problem thankfully. The first time they stick me they get it. My veins are big like a mans I dont know why lol. My sister on the other hand has very small veins and they always have to poke her a few times to draw blood. I nearly pass out as soon as they get me in the seat ready to draw blood. I cant imagine how bad I would freak if they had to do it more then one time.

I know some who have very big veins. You can see my veins on teh surface, but they are very small, and as soon as they poke me it's like they jump around. My friend is like that, she always passes out when she get's blood work done.

Omg, that's ridiculous! Agh! I am totally afraid of needles so this would definitely not be OK with me! At least it's over with now and you don't have to worry about it for a while (hopefully)...

In two weeks I have to go back, but I am hoping another nurse is there. But they say I am the worse, to try and find veins. One lady actually fainted from getting her IV started, I was sort of laughing, seeing as needles don't bother me, I actually watch them do it.

I have the same experience. And it is kinda annoying if a nurse could not find the right vein right away. If I were just another person, i could have shouted at the nurse. coz she literally bruised my left arm. Just imagine not seeing the vein that was just recently used? I always offered my left hand so that I won't have difficulties in working coz I am a right-handed person. But because of that nurse, the needle went to my right arm instead!

I thought of that, but they just grab your other arm and trying to find veins. Luckily I wont be doing a lot of work with my dominent hand.
