What to cook?

Day in and day out we have this worry as to what to cook. There is breakfast, lunch and dinner and there has to be variety unless one is satisfied the way my pet is. She eats the same thing day in and day out and relishes it too! If only we too human beings liked it that way!
How do you go about organising your food programme. Do you plan for the whole week or do you get in to the kitchen and at that very moment decide what to put on the table for those hungry beings that would be waiting with their spoons in hand like Oliver Twist?

I always make a list for our dishes for the whole week, in this case i can able to save money, time and effort. It easy to cook when you have the complete ingredients available in the kitchen and when you already have plan what to cook every meal. Since it's Friday night now I am making my grocery list and menu list for the next sop that i can able to get all I need tomorrow morning in the market.

When one is well organised like you it is a pleasure to turn out dishes in the kitchen as you would have kept everything ready and save time too. Cooking is an art and changing menus does break the monotony. After all the way to a man's heart is through his stomach![em]lol[/em
dee - You must be cooking digitally! After we are in the digital world!

Before I am such a big mess in the kitchen and do not know what to do but when i got married I tried my best to find a way to fix myself and do what i have to do in the kitchen. And I agree that the best way to win the man heart is through his stomach and my husband loves my cooking very much. He preferred to bring his own food to his office than buying food in the canteen or to the nearest restaurant.

I do my grocery shopping every Sunday. I typically buy food good from Monday until Friday. So I already have set my mind on what to prepare on each day as soon as I reach the supermarket.

That is a herculean task jenny - planning for the whole week - that makes 21 meals. Good planning there!

I teach my kids to always work on a budget. And so by preparing food exactly for 5 school days, they'd know that they only have to eat the right amount of food and nothing more than that. (Well, just as long as their father won't take their side) hahaha!

I get stuck on certain things sometimes and like to eat it often but then I get tired of it and am ready for something new. My b/f is quite the cook so I haven't had to worry about planning for a while. Thank goodness because with this crazy schedule of mine I might never eat.

All the more chance Jen.... You mean to say, he will get disturbed and will put salt instead of sugar. I understand

One has to have time, energy and interest too to churn out good dishes. I always had a lot of help in the kitchen and so barring guiding them, I ever lifted a finger but now I need to go there. I like trying out new recipes, specially when I expect guests.
You are lucky you have someone who likes to cook for you. The best cooks I am told are men!

Really my mouth started watering seeing all the dishes that will be ready for the next 3 days. Whose favourites are those? Do you consult before finalising what dishes you will be made or do they have full confidence in you that you are free to choose!!?

Do you cook for your own self or do you cook for the family? If for the family you are doing a great job there. Who taught you to cook and since when did you start cooking. Actually it is said that men are the best cooks.

Very interesting. Why are you cooking. Are there no ladies around? But that is a nice development where a boy cooks for the house. I hope others will follow your example!

Interesting topic here. I have my food program for my breakfast, lunch and dinner. But, no need to be new dishes, but the best way to enjoy my food is by making the dish as delicious as possible by the help of my cookbook guide.

I have been cooking for years but I still refer to my recipe books sometimes, specially when I am making dishes that are not done every day. It is better to look into the book than use wrong ingredients! If you are making simple dishes then why do you need to look at your cook book? I also feel it is better to go for simple but tasty dishes.
If one eats right then there is no need to go to doctors!

I usually have a menu for a whole month for dinner. But, sometimes it does change and I usually have what I need in my house. For breakfast and lunch I do not plan on what we are having since my husband leaves for work before I get up in the morning and my son gets up and just has cereal for breakfast and my gd gets breakfast at school and my daughter does not eat breakfast. At lunch is the same as for breakfast.

It happens all the time when there are different timings. So I see your main meal is your dinner. Must be fun sitting together, exchanging news and views. They say the dining table is the best place for a family bonding.

You have a serious problem on your hands. How do you go about organising it. Do share, so that others here could learn a thing or two from you.

With my husband now been diagnosed with high blood pressure and cholesterol, it is a bit easier on me! Fruit and fresh vegetables every day and grilled fish, or chicken or steak! Piece of cake.... oh no, sorry, he cannot eat cake... haha!

You can give your husband cake once in a way. If you have a sugar monitor in the house your husband can live a better life. You have a challenge and I know you will handle it well!
