How do we get guidance from God?

I believe that this lesson discussed by our Pastor is very relevant as the year has just started.
To start afresh, and to continuously get closer to our Lord.
So these are the points shared by our Pastor on our Bible study.
*I hope I could explain every point the way it was imparted to us.
1. Resolve to do what God tells you.
God speaks to those who are resolved to do what He wants them to do. Have a "YES LORD!" attitude. But keep in mind that saying YES to the Lord, also means saying we are ready to face whatever lies ahead, and not everything is pretty. We need to ask ourselves, "How serious are we from wanting to hear from God?"
2. Meditate constantly on God's principles for life.
It is very crucial in our walk with God to read the scripture, and meditate on them. We are encouraged to read the whole Bible, but what really matters more is that we know the Words of the Lord by heart. The more we know these Words, the more we meditate on them, the more they become part of us. And whatever circumstance we are in, we can always use these Words to guide us through our actions and decisions.
3. Speak to God continually and specifically about your concerns.
God wants us to ask Him, and be specific on the things we want. If we want to be a programmer in Google, then we should ask Him to give us a programming job in Google and not just simply say, "God give me a job." Furthermore, we must expect for an answer, not necessarily what we have in mind, but God hears and answers our prayers. When we believe that our prayers will be answered, we are honoring God. We are affirming that He is faithful, and thus glorifying His Name.
4. Observe a regular plan for listening.
Remember that prayers are meant to be a dialogue, not a monologue. We also need to take time to just listen to what God is telling us. If necessary, go to a place where you are completely away from any distraction.
5. Be attentive to the thoughts and images in your mind.
God will use His Word as basis of the images you see in your mind. So the more you read and know His Word, the more God can flash Godly thoughts in your mind. His Word is the seed, and as long as you have them in your mind, God will use them. But be careful because Satan can pervert those images.
6. Seek the wise counsel of close spiritual companions.
Prov. 13:20
7. Be aware of the convergence of circumstances.
If it's God's will, these circumstances will end in peace.
As a close to this, our Pastor said that there can be times that we won't feel guided, that even how much we want God to intervene in our situation, we won't really get what we want from Him. During these times, God wants us to learn how to choose, to be able to discern and decide. That may sound a big task, but God will always be with us no matter what. So we just need to trust Him completely.

Hi there! thank you very much for sharing this with us. These are rather great sources of knowing when or how do we get the guidance from God. :D I would most definitely refer to this, and can i share this with my friends? :D
I like the fact that the guidance and how we get to feel them, you have stated them in here. =) I especially liked the way it was stated that we ought to speak to God continuously, through prayers, and so on. :D

I am glad Mylot keeps discussions around for awhile as I am just now getting to your post. I think listening is probably one of our greatest weaknesses. We need to listen a lot more.

I agree with you on this. People tend to talk more and listen less. And that's really a big problem now. We really must learn to take time, be still, open our heart and mind, and
just simply listen.

You have to read your religious books everyday and you need to pray god. Try to help more people in the society. Definitly god helps and guide you in your life critical situations.
