Children...how were you made?

When I was a little girl (as if I have grown tall… ) whenever I was asked what would you like to become when you grow up… I will always and very proud. “I want to be a house maid overseas”. Then people would laughed so loud. As if I have said the funniest joke ever in the whole world. I wondered why? I saw our neighbor whose mother was a domestic helper overseas and they were able to have big house concrete, (while ours was made of wood). My playmates (her children) got nicest toys, a kid would ever dream of.. Her daughter had a doll that can move its eyes, open and close, and almost as big as us. A doll that can also walk, we call it as “walking doll”. Her son had a moving robot that we were scared if powered on at night because it moves and has lights as eyes. They even had a doll house. While me and other playmates play with mud as cakes… leaves as food and cans for kitchen stuff. LOL. They are very rich, that’s what I have in mind.
When I was in grade school, also I was so envied to my classmate who had dentures in front. And she played with it while we were listening to our boring teacher. (Excuse me, I have to be descriptive.. hehehe) How I wish that I have dentures too.
I am young, wild and free… who can blame me. LOL.
Now that I am an adult, I sometimes laugh when I remember these small wishes when I was a kid. A housemaid job now that I thought I could never be even be even if I run out of work. And I am fortunate and thankful to that I have strong teeth and I don’t need dentures yet.
Children have very keen and naive observation of the world. Children have imagination beyond imagination. Children are really innocent and thought life is just that easy. Maybe it is just that easy, we adults just make things difficult and complicate matters. ahhhh! It is so nice to be a child again.
Your turn friends... any funny, wild and unimaginable desires when you were kids?

@Mavic123456 I really don't know why the idea of you wanting to be a housemaid was funny to others. I'm still not sure why cleaners / maids are looked down upon by certain people. A job is a job! I think it would be fun actually.

because when you are dreaming you are going to dream big, not at the bottom. and it is funny to see kids answer that way. Common answers were doctor, dentist and so on.
A job is a job, but of course if you have a child you will dream big,

@VivaLaDani13 What important is we were once became children, had fun being a child, tripped and cut our knees and yet we are still here with scars but can stand wearing a mini skirt. LOL

@Mavic123456 So true! I am sad that not all children become what they wanted to be. I know things change when we grow older but some childhood dreams stay into adulthood.

Children operate on common sense. Adults make everything complicated!

This is precisely my point. Let kids be kids... and let adults grow up a bit.
but it is fun to be a kid. and now whenever I hear these ambitions I smile to myself.

At least when I was kid my dream was to become astronaut. I remember I had a very impression when I was able to watch it on TV about the landing of an astronaut on Moon for the first time. I was just so impressed and it has been my dream when I was growing up. But then when I grew up a bit I realized that moon was a bit too far for me so I changed it to becoming a pilot. But while I was in late elementary school I got diagnosed in my eye as myopic so I got eyeglasses and many are saying that it would take me harder for me to study in a flight school since I have problem in my vision. So for now, I just took an ordinary college course and so far I am happy with my situation. Although my dreams could have been better if it was followed but I think that was not for me.

That is something that is really good about childhood. There is really no boundaries up to where you can put your dreams and aspirations are. But as you grow up this dreamland slowly becomes smaller and smaller until the only dream you can do are those that you can achieve.

and yes it is okay. hmm... dont reach for the moon for it became a tourist spot of rich astronauts already LOL. try to dream of something farther like Venus or Jupiter. or Pluto..
well yes those dreams were just dreams, it could happen it couldn't. and the plus and advantage part of it, it is for free.

if dreams are for children for the dreamland for grown ups are vanished how can we tell the children that it is okay to dream? ] have you stopped dreaming? you should not I think. achievable or not... i think even for grown ups it is still ok to dream

My wildest dream was to be a child with a perfect life. I wanted to have the best of everything. But I want to share them with my friends and wanted my friends to live with me. It may not be that wild, but it is one crazy dream I ave always wanted when I was a kid coz I wasn't allowed to go out and play. My play time would always be with my brother. What kind of toys can be play together? NONE! So, we would just play school- I am the teacher and he is the student. I love my brother, but I also wished I had other playmates. So that is maybe the reason why I never liked playing dolls even if I had one walking and talking doll like you have mentioned in your post. It is unhappy to have all the toys and yet there is nobody that you can play it with.

You're lucky that you were able to enjoy your childhood. My nanny was strict with regards to playing with other kids.

ahhh i did not grow with nanny... i really enjoyed my childhood dreams in fact i have a lot proofs on my legs my childhood escapades. Told my BF that my legs are so disgusting having those scars.. his sweetest words I have heard from him "I love those scars because those scars were your childhood memories and that made who you are now". Isn't he sweet...

that's very nice.. i think no childhood experience that missed the "teacher-student" play. We all passed that childhood experience, or mother and daughter or mother and son play. LOL. yes that's true, full of toys but no playmates..though I did not experience that I lived in the neighborhood when 1/4 of the population were children of my age. LOL...

When I was young I just wanted to play forever. I watched Howdy Doody and Tom Terrific on TV. I also watched American Bandstand with my older brother (teenager) who taught me how to dance. Then I wanted to be one of the girls on American Bandstand. Just one of the regular girls that was there on every show with her boyfriend. It was on right after school. After that I wanted to marry a construction worker because I thought they were so big, strong and handsome. And I did. Big mistake, so much for childhood dreams.

hahaha... then your dream came true of marrying handsome, strong and big construction worker. cool. having been huge in the family, you know toys were not the priority. LOL. so we just had those "whatever" things to use as toys and imagine. we don't have TV yet, until so we watched tv in the neighbor's house.. you know the house maid. but eventually we had black and white one, that looks like a cabinet with cover and key.

Yes, but my dream turned out to be a nightmare. It only lasted a year. We had a TV like that in a cabinet, but no key. There were no color TVs in 1948 when we got our first TV. My first memory of watching TV was when I was maybe 3 or 4, 1950/51. But I don't remember what I watched.

but he used to tell me to get farther away from him in case something bad happen.

Hi mavic.
First of all this is a very interesting discussion that you have started. When I was young I wanted to be a cricketer like Rahul Dravid. Unfortunately that did not happen. However I am happy with what I am and where I am. Also I wanted to wear spectacles like some adults did. And in fact I got spectacles. But now I curse myself why I wished that. How I wish I still had my vision intact. Anyways have a nice day and thanks for bringing back the good old memories.

Because I am the eldest in the family I also thought it was my duty to 'teach' my brother, sister and rest of the cousins... haha. I enjoyed the part when it was time to give them hidings... hiehie! I was never without my cane! And no, I never became a teacher (had enough 'training' as a child and discovered that it was hard work!)

hahaha... well it was inappropriate because the man knew that your father (his friend) told something about him to the family. inappropriate because you might embarrassed the man. hahaha but of course you were a kid and you were curious how was it? Have you not seen wooden leg that time, when you were told about it?

My childhood dream was very simple. I wanted, to be a wife and mother. I also wanted, to have career as a writer. They may seem like simple dreams. But, i have learn over the years as, my childhood dreams did come true, that there is a lot more it than, what I thought, there was.

There was a time when I was a kid and my scold me, I was too proud to say "i will leave this house"..then they will all laugh and would even say "come, i'll help you pack".
I used to watch movies with actors leaving and they will be begged not to leave, so i was expecting the same to happen in real but it didn't. I'm just grateful it didn't. haha!

So silly dreams. lol. I am laughing right now and I can relate with your stories. I did also what you did when I was still a kid. I played mud, leaves and cans . I played all day long under the sun and no days that I returned home so clean like when I go out. I was always dirty before and I did not have a very pretty doll. Oh, well, I was not envy before because I can say that I did enjoy playing outside and I can say that me and my playmates were very resourceful because we were using indigenous materials for our toys.

Mmm..let me recall my childhood life. My parents were both working well that time and my aunt usually treats me with sweets, and we have a motorcycle that my neighbors don't have, so in early stage of childhood was happy. Only one thing I'm so insecure with, my dark skin. I always thought I'm so ugly because I have dark skin and kids with white skin are beautiful. This is because of what I usually see in tv, white-skin people are portrayed as beautiful and nice and rich in movies while it's the opposite with black people. But then I grown up, I'm glad with my skin and very satisfied. And so I realized about life and beauty and the rest is history/

hahaha.. so have you ever wished that you had white skin? hmmm let me guess, you had been conscious about your skin and during your teenage to college days, you are skin whitener fanatic, may it be a lotion or a soap? hmmm.. were you?
but it is glad that you are now satisfied with your beauty and skin.

I was a typical kid with dreams to be a doctor or a lawyer. I wished I could be a kid who would say I want to be a pilot because I want to touch the clouds or something. That would be really fun. I would have also laughed about it when I looked back. But I didn't have those kinds of dreams.

I always admired my friend at primary school. Every day he had oven-baked bread that his mom made. He would give me a slice and it was always so nice. I thought they were very rich. When I told my mom, she told me 'no, they are poor and cannot afford bread from the shop, that is why his mom had to bake bread every day'. Today I understand that to have fresh bake bread is actually a huge luxury!
