I Reminded Myself Of This...

I reminded myself of this when I started my discussion about saving money...
Even as a kid I was a saver. Matter of fact, I always saved my change in my piggy bank, any change I found or was given for chores. So, I moved out of my parents house and left my bank behind. I didn't think I had much in it anyway. So, my sister called me and said can I have the money in your bank since your not here? I said yeah sure (still thinking I only saved a little bit).
Well, the next time I talked to her she said I bought everyone's Christmas gifts this year with the money you gave me in your bank. She said thank you for the $75! I was so surprised that I saved that much and didn't even know it! Lol. That was just from saving change!
I can laugh about it now and find it kind of funny but at the time I did NOT think it was funny at all! I had no idea there was that much in there...

I toss my small coins in a 5 gallon water container. A few months ago I emptied it and took to change house here. Had over 150.00 in all. I never knew it added up so fast.

Yeah, it is so good saving change like that and it definitely adds up! I had no idea there was that much in my piggy bank so I didn't think anything of letting her have it. Lol.

Seeing the situation you guys were in at Christmastime, it would have been nice if she let you know this before she used it. Not nice at all. I bet you would have at least split it with her after finding out, IF she would have told you. How come you are so nice and everyone else is so stingy?

Lucky sister you have for getting such amount! :D I wish I was like you back then. Even if I set aside some change I still end up giving the money away to kids. However, I totally agree that saving up those little change adds up to something big. Two years ago I bought 3 little piggy banks for my three nephews at the start of the year. I intend to put in my change in the piggy banks and I'll give it to them by Christmas as presents. So come Christmas that year, when we were opening our gifts they decided to break the piggy banks and count their money. I was surprised when they told me how much they got. I never thought I could save that much from those pennies.

Yeah my sister was the lucky one in this situation! Lol. I have a habit of saving too much usually, I am still a saver but I am working on finding a balance between saving and spending.

They actually do add up!
It's like my earnings here in myLot which I don't ever touch. They just go to an account which I watch grow. It's funny how a few change can become a certain amount after some time.
I guess you only not made your sister happy, but also the people she gave Christmas gifts too!

Five years ago, I quit visiting myLot. I had to move to a different place and I have been very busy I couldn't find time to check here. I never had the chance to try getting my first payout here. Now that I'm back, that's what I intend to do. Save every earnings I can get from here. I'm actually excited and looking forward to my first payout here if ever I'll make it. Hahaha! I'd be the happiest by then. :D I'm totally enjoying here a lot. Happy myLotting! :)

Yeah I know! =-)
I save some of the money that I make here but most of it goes to my daughters Home School program. But I am sure it is adding up nicely for you. Every little bit helps.
Yeah I did make many happy since they got gifts from that money I saved! Lol.

I used to save a lot too, but then I'd give it away to people. I am a generous person, so I'd always give it to someone who needed it. I had saved up 7 dollars and 38 cents (a big deal for me) and I gave it to the fund at my school for some people who got hit by a tornado.

That's what I do too. I like putting aside the coins I get or the change I get from a purchase. It does add up but then everytime I see a beggar on the road asking for alms, I normally just give it to them with no hesitation. Or if my baby cousin would ask for some change so he can buy candies in a near by store, I don't mind him getting coins from the change I have set aside. I still end up not having saved anything. Hahaha!

My husband gives away most of his money too. But I am trying to tell him that our family has to come first sometimes too.

Wow!
Your piggy bank must have been about the size of a real pig! Mine was about the size of a soup can, maybe smaller. Never got more than $2-3 in it.

Wow that must have been a big bank to hold $75 worth of change. I used to save all my money when I was a kid to. My sister would spend hers about as soon as she got it. I had a lot saved up by the time I was a senior in high school. I guess you should have asked your sister how much change there was in there lol. Live and learn right!

It was a big one actually, it was like 2 feet tall. But I just thought it was mostly pennies so it couldn't be much. Lol. Stupid me at the time...
Yeah my sister spent her money all the time, she still does spend more than save.
I definitely should have asked her how much it was! Lol.

I save my change also. It really adds up. Once my girls and I saved all our change in a big jug for a year and then turned it in. we had well over 600.00!! now I average about 30 to 40.00 per month. I try not to spend it and it is good to know it is there in case I need it.

hi lovingmybabies.
you were one thrifty kid and it was nice of you to let your sister spend the money that you saved all those years.
anyway, i still do practice saving coins in a piggy bank. in fact, it is something that i shared to my daughter as well. right now, we have one piggy bank each and i get to save my change after the end of the day. for my duaghter i give her 'challenges' and if she completes each 'challenge', she gets a monetary reward. these 'challenges' range from getting a perfect score in an exam to reaching a point grade average in school to being able to read a certain number of books over a long weekend. i also include some fun activities for my daughter in these 'challenges' such as learning how to snap her fingers and learning how to jump rope. sometimes doing household chores are also included in the 'challenge'. hopefully, she gets to learn how to save and makes this a habit until she grows into an adult.
cheers and happy mylotting!!!

My boyfriend is against saving up change. He complains that it doesn't "add up to anything." This coming from a math guy... *Sigh*
He and I have some different views regarding money. I wish that he'd move more toward my view of it, since we would have quite a bit more money if he did.

That is really good saving.
I like to save as well. The problem is when I get all of the change, I don't get around to putting them in rollers to exchange them. I know I could save a lot by doing so. I am good with bills though, I can save those for a long time usually. If I just have something to buy though, of course they will go quickly. I wish I hadn't started drinking sometimes. All of my extra cash goes to that habit.

Yeah putting change away to save definitely adds up. Sometimes I wish I didn't smoke cigs too because that would save me more money as well. But what can you do...habits are habits and they are hard to break!

I would have loved to be your sister! That is so cool, at a young age to be able to save that much on change alone. I also like to save when I was a kid and I have a piggy bank. But the thing is, if there is something that I want to buy, I will get some money from my bank using a ruler, lol! I just slide it in and out slides the change. So I wasn't able to save that much. But still, I manage to have a decent amount, but not as impressive as yours.

It is funny how much you can save by saving change. My son used to just come home from and empty his pockets and tell us, he did not want change, he did not like carrying it around and we could have it. I took it and added it to ours. I tried to get him to put it in a jar and keep it, and he would not. In his truck, he would throw it in the console. One day he had to repair his truck, and was scrimping to get through the week. He was surprised how much change that he had in his truck. He now has a jar upstairs, and saves every cent.

That change can really add up. I had a huge jar that I would toss change in all the time and there came a time when I had nothing. I wondered how I would buy milk and bread. I sit down with some rolls and started rolling it up. I had enough in there to buy my milk and bread plus some dinner items! Life saver. I was amazed too. I have a coffee jar jug now that I have been tossing change in. When it gets full I am going to see how much I have.

Perception when you are little with money is different then when you are a grown up. It was nice that someone got to spend it, and that you were able to save that much in change as a child.

I bought a piggy bank before and started to save at least a coin a day. It was already half when my friend ask me to lend money due to his shortage of daily allowance so I said he just get it to my piggy bank since he was only lending for $5 usd and I was still at work. But then it took months before he gave it and so my piggy bank was emptied. So I started all over again and then he borrowed again and I used my savings in the piggy bank again. Now, I am not saving anymore.
