It depends on you and how you live, border collies are the most intelligent of breeds, agile, tireless natural athletes, keen, affectionate and beautiful. However, they require a lot of exercises, several hours a day, and unless they are socialised with children as puppies may attempt to round them up and if the child runs may bite their heels all the best, urban

You should get a golden retriever! They are the best. They look good with their shiny golden fur.. and they are the friendliest and most playful of all dogs. If you have kids in the house, then labrador is the best dog you could buy! They're not exactly "small" dogs, but they're not as huge as bulldogs either. Let us know what you end up buying :)

Where do you stay? Dogs like Husky needs a cool environment to stay in. If you are staying in some tropical places, then it would be best if you leave the option out. Second, do you stay in a big place? Huge dogs would require ample space to exercise and cramping them in a confine place is sort of cruel. Third, do you have any allergy? Some breeds shed more than others, so if you are sensitive to dog fur, then that is another no-no. And lastly, what do you want from your pet dog? A companion, a guard dog, or?

You must tell us more about what you expect from a dog. You said you want a small dog, but they are not all the same. Do you have enough time to spend brushing the dog daily? Because if you decide to get a long haired, toy breed, you'll have to do this daily. Do you want a friendly dog just for cuddling or you'd like a little warrior, to 'fight' whoever does anything he doesn't like? Because, if you decide to get a small terrier, this is what you'll have: a warrior. Are you a sporting people or you like to spend your afternoons watching TV? If you are an active person, you must get an active dog. You can't buy a Pekingneese and expect him to join you during the morning jogging... So, tell us more to receive the best answer.

Well I agree if you don't have the room for a larger dog then stick to getting a smaller one. A larger dog needs room and room to run outside to get a lot of exercise. As far as small dogs it kind of depends on what you are looking for and what your personality is like. Here's my experience on small dogs that I have had. Maltese - is a great dog!! They have a very sweet personality and fun little dogs and they don't shed so you don't have to deal with hair to clean up. But you do need to have them groomed as their hair will get really long. Shih tzu & Lhasa Apso - I have had them both and they are very similar in personality. They are sweet dedicated pets for the most part, have playful moments, but also like their space and can be cranky at times.. but I have loved them both so much! They also don't shed.. but again they need grooming because their hair gets long. Yorkshire Terrior - they are cute little dogs but my experience with them is that they are very yippy kind of naughty dogs. Our little 4 pound dog barked at everything and wanted to attack deer, cows, etc... she wasn't scared of everything and was a little hunter always running off in the woods after things. They don't shed either and don't really need as much grooming but their hair can get long. I would advice looking at a shelter if you can to find a dog. Small dogs come and go quickly in shelters but you might find something. A little mutt dog is the best. My experience they are the smartest and healthiest over the purebred dogs. good luck!
