As promised, I have included a photograph of our new chandelier in its new home and I must say, it looks happy up there. By the way, those are reflections of light you see on the walls and the thing wasn't even lit up lol.
Big, bold and beautiful I would say but there again, I'm biased!
I hope you like it as much as I do. I have thanked the FIL for his efforts as I've always got along with him, it's his Mrs who rubs me up the wrong way..and vice versa it seems, as she's still refusing to come round!
Hopefully, John will bring back a magnet from his Dad's to test the brass light we had before. I really do think it's real and if so, we will be 'quids in' provided John sells it and not me.
I'm useless!
At least I'm in a good mood ready for my Pelvic Ulstrasound Scan. Can't wait!!

It's not as high up as the previous light so I should be OK on our step ladders.

I managed to get a soft cloth and clean the crystal pieces last week, up on our small step ladders. If I do this once a month or so it shouldn't get too dusty..hopefully.

It looks very beautiful and brightens up your house. Now I think there is no light to touch this one,the sparkling and crystal-clear chandelier goes well together with the walls and handrail, etc. I am glad that you have cleared the air with your FIL.He is helpful and comes round whenever you need his assistance.

I would love it if I could inspire her in some way but what she tends to do is ask for advice..and not take any, even if I offer it in good faith, but she EXPECTS me to like absolutely everything she has done to HER house. Do you know what I mean?
I've not seen her since last April when she stormed out the house. She's done exactly the same with one of her sisters. She 'fell out' with her years ago and refuses to have anything to do with her. She doesn't live in Carlisle but in West Cumbria (Whitehaven) I think.
I mean, how petty can you get and I would LOVE to hear her sister's side of events as I bet it doesn't tally with my MIL's!

She seems to be temperamental.Maybe It will be quite some time before you clear the atmosphere.

It was good your MIL didn't make difficulties .I guess she would be amazed at how awesome what you have done in your house is ,if she comes round one day.She has to hand it to you-you know a thing or two in decorating.

Now that, without a shadow of a doubt was definitely worth waiting for my friend! I bet you are soooo relieved now, all that trouble you had, has been worth it! Very impressive, and secretly I am quite jealous now. I hope it is truly brass. BTW you are NOT useless, please don't put yourself down. Look at what you have managed to achieve, you should be proud of what you've done my friend!

Thank you so much! I'm not the only one who uses lighting to cheer myself up as I've read some reviews on BHS (mine's there by the way if you want to look at it) and they've said the same as me.
I've got to think of that pesky space now between the stairs and the radiator (some 120cms or thereabouts) but it's the depth of the console table (or whatever) I have to be careful about. No more than about 35cms tops. It's proving difficult to find one with soft-close drawers at that depth.
I won't give up though!

Janey, your taste is inspiring. Now you have a good focus to think on when you have to go for your medical procedure. Just dream of shining glass drops and reflections and other pretty things.

I would think that you would want to think through your relationship with your doctor and see if it is worth salvaging. Whatever is in the letter can be shown to a new doctor to see if they think the same way.

Thank you so much GardenGerty. I did indeed think of glittery things when I had my Pelvic Ultrasound Scan. The lady told me that she reckons the coil might be out of place so it's just as well I don't have..well, you know lol. She said she's not 100% sure as she's no expert but she will put it in her report for the gynaecology ward. No doubt I will receive a letter before my appointment in March, it all depends on what they make of it.
I've also received a grovelling letter from my doctor and I don't know what to make of it as it raises more questions (possible temporary treatment for an underactive thyroid gland which had been discounted in the past) than answers. It is now up to me if I want to contact my doctor about it.
I am more confused about my care now than I was before but at least my chandelier is there to cheer me up...glinting away.

As I put in my comment with your picture, I am impressed , that is so beautiful. I too have a medical procedure coming up. But I will be more fortunate than you as having anaesthetic , in my docs terms , having my spine jacked up, repaired in other words and various other procedures. Going to hospital in London so not on doorstep. But will think of your beautiful chandelier when they put me under. Good luck to you. And hope all goes well for you. Xxx

Awww..and I shall think of YOU whenever I look at my chandelier, as both sparkle in the same way my friend.
Good luck with your medical procedure.

Many thanks my friend. Yes, I do think the MIL is jealous of my relationship with John whereas his Dad tends to forget unfortunate incidents from the past..in order to keep us BOTH happy. I have always got on better with him than her but anyway..
The brass light (apart from the extension rod) IS real and is currently on Ebay. It probably won't sell but you never know..I have included bulbs, not everyone does!!

I find that, you are absolutely right. She just wants to be in the middle of the relationship, and nit pick at everything, trying to get him a better woman, whereas most men could care a less, it's his life.
You never know, I went through a bunch of items, and posted them on a Facebook auction here, some for 0.50 cents - $5.00 to see what I can make. I want the things gone but if I can make a few dollars in the meantime.

I have one of those practically above me whilst I'm on the computer. It's been a long time since the fan bit of it has been used as we don't get the same hot weather as you do.
The acrylic light upstairs looks pale in comparison to the chandelier in the hallway BUT at least I have the option of buying glass drops for it in future, which is useful to know.
The brass light is real by the way (apart from the extension rod) and it's in brilliant condition. I always thought the in-laws had bought it John when he moved in in 1999 but it was ALREADY THERE, probably for years and years.
I've got it on ebay now and I really hope it sells as it deserves a new home.

Lovely! It's marvelous how the prisms refract the available light.

It is isn't it? There are loads of these lights on BHS now so I guess they're slowly ditching the plastic ones!
I am soo happy right now. I actually wish one was in here so I could admire it even more.

I really like the photo of your new chandelier. It looks glittery and very special. You must feel delighted with it. I like to see reflections on the wall. I am as keen on it as you are.
Good luck with your pelvic ultrasound scan. I hope the brass light is real and John can sell it. It is lovely you like your father in law but your mother in law rubs you up the wrong way.
Good luck Janey.

Thanks very much maximax8. The chandelier has exceeded all expectations, it really has. I remember seeing it hanging in BHS ages ago and loving it then. To imagine that a few months down the line I would have one in the hallway..well, I'm pinching myself. I'm so relieved that BHS greatly reduced it after Christmas and I was able to find a voucher code to save even more. No way could I afford £220 (which was the original price), £99 was more like it! To spend my Christmas money on something that is going to bring happiness means a lot to me..as it's going to be up there a LONG time!
By the way, the brass light fitting IS real brass. Only the extension rod at the top is made of mixed metals. It's in brilliant condition and I now have it on ebay.
I really hope it sells as it deserves a new home.

Fantastic chandelier Janey, really love it. I like the way it reflects on the wall too. It looks really classy. I bet you are now thinking that is was well worth the wait and the bits of hassle you got before finally having it on your ceiling. Good luck too with the ultrasound - hope that all goes well for you. )Derek

Thanks Derek. I must admit, it looks even better than I expected so that's an added bonus! It is a big chandelier but I've got away with it due to its central position and the fact we have a high ceiling, so we had leeway with the chain. I'd love to update the acrylic one upstairs now as it deserves some proper glass on the frame..but that's all in my head at the moment..as are a lot of plans!
The Ultrasound went well (sort of) but the coil may be a little out of place so that's going in the lady's report to the gynaecologist. No idea what's going to happen next as they'll have to put me under for anything er..exploratory!

It looks nice!
I would think you'd really need sunglasses if that chandelier gets lit up.
I like the reflections. It looks like the reflections of a mirror ball. If you can get it turning, then you'd have to go dancing everytime you come pass by it!

Do you know, I was wracking my brains thinking, 'What on earth does this light remind me of?' and you've just reminded me...thanks!
I need to think about a console table now. I'm getting as obsessive about that than I was over the light, which is actually a good thing as I want to be patient with my search..not settle for any old tat or, worse still, something overpriced!!

Hello francesca5. Thanks very much. I must admit it has exceeded all expectations. First of all, I expected some of the drops to be missing (it never happened) plus the light could be too big (it isn't as it's right in the middle of the space) and, lastly, I was dreading it being a total waste of money..even though it was DRASTICALLY reduced.
I needn't have worried on all counts. This light HAD to be right as it will be up there for a long time..and it is.
I am more than pleased. I'm relieved too!

We all have dreams my friend. Many people on here know that I dream a lot of what I'd like to have done in the home. Funds do not allow everything being done at once but - the fact this particular chandelier had been greatly reduced, in turn helped me to buy it..all that was due to Christmas money from my brother and £30 from my husband. No way could we afford it at full price. I had admired this particular chandelier for months and months in the store, when it was at full price of course and always dreamed I would own one.
So, you see, dreams can turn into reality. It may take a while but you need to believe in those dreams. Cheesy I know but true.
