Remaining on Top

They say that the problem of being on top is remaining there. Very true especially if you don't have the right mindset to keep the position.
Often times, those on top tend to slack off and assume that their peak would provide the necessary momentum to get them through the next round of challengers. Of course you must realize that everyone else would want to have the chance to take you down. Hence, you always need to be on top of your game. Key word there is YOUR GAME, meaning, you need to challenge yourself beyond what you have already achieved. Say, if you are a southpaw slugger get a right handed haymaker; if your are a low post basketball player excel in perimeter shooting; or, if you're not a handsome dude---be smart.
Like what William Faulkner said, "Don't bother getting better than your contemporary or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself."

I think Its the best statement in termsof success.YOu can get easily on top but you can't easily stay on top for longer time if you are not having that dedication. It needs little hard work to get on to top but ot needs lot of hard work to stay on the top.For example Roger fedrer stays on top for many years, and then nadal but it was not easy for Nadal to stay their for longer time.
It really matters how hard work you do after getting on to top.

There are people that are born with certain natural talents and they do get chosen and, perhaps even get more chances BUT there are also people who are waiting for that one to screw up so they can get a chance. People that have been training and waiting for a very long time to step in and use what they have gained while waiting. Very wise advice to continue to try and better ourselves even though we may reach a certain comfort level.

I'm reminded of how Steve Young, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Jason Kaepernick with what you said. They were all reliever quarterbacks, but they did not let this situation affect their work ethics and made sure that when they were called upon to take the snap, they were able to deliver.

Its rwally difficult to remain on top. But with perseverance and prayer you can achieve it. Its a matter of mind setting and determination.
