On what is a regular day for a top pilot Denzel Washington, he takes his jumbo jet of over a hundred passengers into the skies in the middle of a terrible storm, and uses his odd skills to get the airplane above the storm, as the passengers applaud. What he doesn't expect, is when they're coming towards the landing strip, something goes terribly wrong with the aircraft, and Denzel makes the moves that only he could do, to save the lives of the vast majority of passengers... little do those passengers know, Denzel was highly intoxicated on that flight... so who is to blame? The airline, or Denzel?
I saw the trailers for this movie back when it was in the theatre, and didn't really see the glamour to it. It seemed like the whole story was being played out in those trailers, and I wasn't in for any surprises. That's where I was wrong. The opening scenes of this movie really pull you to the edge of your seat, and keep you hanging on for the rest of the film. I have never seen a more elaborate, wild, insane, yet possible airplane crash in a film before. It was really amazing to watch, and I had to take a breather when it was done... I almost felt like the characters waking up after it had happened. The rest of the movie is more of a character study, but I kept on being in shock when I find out just what is happening along the way.
This movie was great, and Denzel did an incredible performance. I'm not at all surprised that he's nominated for the best actor oscar, and I would really love it if he won that award, too. I highly recommend watching this movie, you won't be disappointed.
