My cat Muffin keeps trying to steal my pistachios!

Muffin, our tuxedo male cat, has developed quite a fondness for pistachios...I was eating them last week (already shelled) and left the bowl on the table while I went to do something. In my absence, he hopped up on the table (which he normally doesn't do thankfully) and started munching on them. By the time I got back a few minutes later, they were all gone! Now, whenever I start eating them, he is literally in my face, desperately trying to gobble some out of the bowl or bag. I have heard that some cats like crazy foods, and a few of my own cats have liked some pretty weird stuff (one cat likes mangoes, for instance) but I have never heard of a cat liking pistachios. I am not even sure if they are harmful to cats. Has anyone else ever heard of a cat who likes them?
