I like to say that I can barely speak English, but I do.
I understand and can read a great deal of Mexican Spanish, but have problems speaking it.
I studied Italian in college and can understand a lot of it, still, but don't speak it at all anymore. I understand a few words of German and Swahili, but would need to learn a lot more before I could function in societies that use those languages.
So, I basically tell people that I speak English. But, I often surprise people with how much Spanish I understand.

English and I guess my next one that I'm sort of able to speak is Spanish. I know a little Italian and a little German as well and a couple of words in Vietmanese. I expect I'll learn more as my youngest daughter married a Vietmanese.
