If wishes were horses, beggars would ride on them!

Recently I was having a conversation with one of my friend about our current lifestyle. A 9-6 job, which pay us enough to live & less to dream. Then holiday on weekends, when we opt to shop, relax or holiday. Fight with the bosses for leaves to go home. I said "I wish we could have been self-employed with no bosses & no one to question". The reply which suddenly hit me in the face was "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride on them". I was sincerely punched in the face. A simple phrase had a whole lot of meaning to it. It is not only me who is wishing something for myself. I am better than millions of others who are just fighting to survive. But should I rest because I am in better condition than theirs? Should I not wish? Am I guilty for wishing good for myself? Should I really enjoy my work thinking that at least I am better than millions? These were some of the doubts popping up in my mind. But then I got the answer. "Don't wish, will". It's my will, and not wish that can make a difference. When you wish, you assume that it should happen but you don't take measures to make it happen. When you will, its your determination that drives you to achieve the desired state. Wishing is everybody's business, but willing is fighter's trait. A slight difference in the perspective of wish & will opened up a whole lot of opportunities for me. Now I don't wish, I strive hard to make it happen. I searched for the ways I can be self-employed & embarked on the journey. I am on my way now trying hard to be self-employed, looking out for means & work. But surely that one phrase has changed a lot in me. Hope others too will understand the two perspectives of wish & will, & will strive to achieve rather than wishing to get.

What a nice thought. The first thing i read this morning is your discussion. It really made my morning. This is a wonderful thought. At first i laughed reading the headline. It is so funny. But i like the concept of wish and will. This is true when you wish, you just wish for it. When there is a will for that particular thing, you strive to get that.

you are right. it's no need in settling for a life that you really don't want. that is the difference between controlling your life or letting life control you. congrats on your choice to start being self employed. i know you will succeed in meeting your goals. much luck to you, my friend.

Another one that you like is 'Learning is simple but never easy'. When you think about it anything in life is simple but only when you try doing it, you realize it is not easy.

Great post which simplifies things a great deal. Everyone wishes. Many dream but how many are prepared to do what needs to be done to achieve goals in life?
