Where is the Caps Lock, Volume and Brightness Sign?

I have an Acer Aspire One D257-1497 net book.
Before when I press the Caps lock button, there is a "padlock" sign that appears on the screen. Same is true when I modify the volume and brightness of my net book.
However, I noticed lately that whenever I press the caps lock or change the volume or brightness, those "visual signs" that appear on my screen are gone. It kinds of irritate me since I cannot visualize the level of volume or brightness and I cannot know if the caps lock is on until I type something.
Has anyone of you experienced the same thing? Can anyone help me fix this?

I have a different model, but no, that's never happened to me. It may just be a quirk of your machine. Mine had issues right after I bought it. I had to ship it to Texas for repairs. They sent it back and I had the same problem again. It was very frustrating.
