They say "The best is yet to come", be optimistic. Thinking practically when I look in flashback, this is not the case.
Life too is like a project where we have different phases - childhood, teenage, youngster, adult, married, parent, retired & old age. One can make out different phases of life with different responsibilities. Now if you look in past, when was the best time you ever had? I gues most of the answers would be in increasing order of life phases.
In that light, I would like to tweak the above phrase a little - "The best has already gone", enjoy your present. We constantly plan our future& want to re-live our past, in a better way. But we forget that today's present will be tomorrow's past. And then again we will think to re-live it again in a better way. Then why not live it to the fullest right now? Why not enjoy the present as we would like it when seen from future?
"Look back from future" is a great methodology when I apply it to life. Generally when I look back in past today, I know what all I missed. When you look back from future, you can imagine how you want your present to be like. And then have fun, enjoy & live your present.

We should really strive to make each day to be better than the day before. in doing so, we would always be happy and would never regret any single day of our lives.

That's my philosophy as well except that it usually does not work out that well.

Since we don't have hindsight, when we look at our past we can analyze our mistakes. As you said, you see what you missed. I have also seen what I missed and how much I have changed in the years since then. Life is about learning from mistakes so that we can be more content all of the time.

Oh yeah, this is primarily the reason why for me, i try to enjoy and get the best out of the moment i am. when i was in a vacation i worry that the time would fly by fast and that i will miss what i am doing at the moment, and i realize i just think about it when i have free time and just enjoy it now. =)

our past is very important no matter how bad or good it was. it is our bridge to the present and even to the future. i don't believe when some people say that the past isn't important because it really is. we cannot have a better future or present without our past. we just have to enjoy the present and look forward to having a good future.
