in china, woman should stay at home to "zuo yue zi" in the first month after delivery. and in this month they cannot have bath or wash hair, they need to rest on the bed most of the time, and they can not eat much more fruits or other cool vegetables , ofcoursr not cold water or drinks. they can not go outside, for it says they can not be blowed. and much more things in the firth month. do you have the same custom?

Hiya rose66, When we have a baby where I am from the only thing you can do if you are lucky is to rest all you can and get back into a routine slowly. I can see the point of it but it is not something that is done at all. Of course cold drinks is not a good idea for anyone especially when you have just got over a big change over in your system. Even when I fed my baby myself it was frowned on and they gave me a difficult time trying to keep that up.xxx

Hello rose66, Did not know it was called this and although I am not in favour of not being able to wash you hair at least once and shower I think the rest of it is a really great idea as we have a chance to get over all the nine months and the feeling exhausted. I never had any of this and I was very tired a lot of the time as with the fifth one he cried day and night so this system would have been a real break for me as for many others.xxx

Hello yet again, Just read also that in the year of the Water Dragon that was last year in China those zuo ye zi centres were all booked out for the whole year almost as well. I did not know about how deep a level this custom has but now I do. Its very interesting to read about. A lot of Chinese girls practice it from what I can see. Also there are many people specialized in this practice as well. I started work almost right away after having my first baby and although I had to work I regretted having to do that circumstances forced me into that really.xxx

We get 6 weeks off work, 2 months if the delivery was a c-section. the doctor advises to rest and not lift anything heavier than the baby. None of that other stuff...

40 days rest is mandatory in India. The custom seems little similar as they have to take enough rest.
