I brought the cage in and adopted the hamster today.
It was actually pretty funny, I set her in the room where we do our sign in and out paper work. She had climbed up into the tunnel, I left her thinking she went to sleep.
10 minutes later she was in the same spot, I ripped the cage apart thinking she might have sufficated, as she wasn't moving when I taped the tunnel.
Nope, she was just sleeping. She is now sleeping again in the tunnel, so I will leaver her today at least, and take her out to play tomrrow.

She is going to give you a lot of mini heart attacks sleeping in that tunnel...

I got it from the shelters, many shelters have them. Most small are the most to be abdonded or surrendered at shelters. We actually got about 30 of them from anotehr shelter. We have I believe 3 or 4 left. If they don't have any at your local shelter, it wouldn't be far to get it from our shelter (it may be cheapier as well up here compared to the city). I know adpting a dog is, I looked at dogs in teh city was $400 - $800 whereas here is $210.

You are so lovely to your pets, and tell such lovley tales about them.
You should start writing stories about them under the discussion writing... I would read them and follow the stories every day.
If you do decide ot do this please tell me here on this comment so I can then go and find them all in one place and follow them... you should number them as well so we konw what order we are reading them as they will soon get mixed up as people comment on them and answer the discussions, it would be a bit like a dairy/blog of there goings about.
You could then put them all in a book!!! Sell them and earn some more money to put towards moving out

LOL--she is probably the same color as the bedding, too which will make it even harder to find her....Question, though--I thought "she" was a "he"?

Of course...at least you didn't pick a completely "boy" name....a word of caution--I owned two female hamsters (not at the same time) and they were both escape artists...no matter how secure we thought their cages were, they always managed to escape. Since we had three cats at the time, this was a bit of a problem...
Once, one of our hamsters, Caramel, climbed out of the top of her cage while we were driving home from NJ to VA--we were on the highway and couldn't stop for a while to get her. Luckily, 1) she didn't move from her spot on top of her cage, she just looked out the window, and 2) the cats couldn't get out of their carrying cases or it would have been a REALLY crazy drive!

I paid extra for this cage ($55.00) for that reason, she got out of the cage in the shelter and was gone for 2 weeks.
I have the doors twist tied shut, and a heavy textbook on the roof.
Tonight she just getting use to it, but it's when she get's comfy will be the problem.

I must say, she's very sweet. Keep her away from your brother's cat, who might mistake her for dinner.

One of my late hamsters had a little car that he would play in. He would run in the wheel and try to run over any cat in his path. I swear he was trying to get revenge for all the times he looked up in his home (the cage) and all he could see was somekitty's furry behind parked up there.
Hamsters are great. So are rats. Unfortunately, my boyfriend is against ever sharing a home with such creatures, so I think that our home is destined to be pet rodent-free... at least, until we have a human child who begs Daddy to "pretty please" let her get a rat or hamster. Not that Mommy would ever encourage that or anything...
