How did you celebrate Martin Luther King Day this year?

My husband had to work, but I was home with the kids. Since MLK day is also a National day of service, we thought about helping out with a neighborhood clean-up project, but it was honestly too cold (it has dropped over 20 degrees in my area since yesterday, and now it is in the teens). So we bought some canned goods for our local food pantry to drop off tomorrow, and then we spent part of the day with a friend who had been ill and her kids. It was a nice afternoon.
How about you? Did you do any volunteer work, go shopping, visit a museum or just stay home?

I wish I could say that i did more than I actually did, but I'm lucky that my car even started this morning. I could tell it really did not want to. I did get to watch parts of the inauguration, and that was wonderful and inspiring. I was rather annoyed that so many people had to work. This is a holiday!!

maybe your car is suffering from the cold, too--hope it makes it through this week of cold weather! We watched a bit of the Inauguration too, but not that much. That was also a good way to spend the day.
I agree--I really think businesses and such should be off today, especially because it was a "double holiday." I remember a few years ago that more offices were closed for the Presidential Inauguration, as well as MLK Day. I guess because the economy is so bad, more businesses feel that they have to stay open.

My car probably is suffering from the cold.. but I wish it would understand just how much suffering I'll be doing if I have to walk. LOL. idk, maybe it is because of the economy. But it's during these stressful times that we need to make to kick back, relax and celebrate. It renews the spirit.

I completely agree--it is times like those that we need to celebrate all that is going well, and give people who are working longer hours for less pay more breaks. Better for them--and better for companies, too.

I was woke up on Monday morning with a friend of mine calling my phone about every fifteen minutes. I figured that it might be something important so I called him back and it turned out that he wanted to see if I would be able to do a favor for him. He wanted to know if I could give him and his son a ride to McDonalds so that his son could go back with his mother (he gets his son every other weekend). So that is what the kids and I ended up doing on Monday. I wouldn't say that it was community service for the masses, but it was at least a little something that made a difference for my friend.

That definitely counts--you did him a big favor. Did he buy you some french fries in return? My kids would have insisted that we eat there, too...

Yes, but you are doing service every day in your line of work, so that more than counts! Sorry you didn't get the day off, but your clients must be really happy you were with them.

Sorry about that. I guess going to work is like doing a good deed, right?? It is really cold here, too...the cold rolled in on Sunday night and is still here. I can't wait for summer!

Since I am working for a US client I got a holiday yesterday. Ans Honestly speaking, this is for the first time in my life I am getting leave on Jan 21st. I was very happy and took rest for the whole. But the problem was that all my friends were having work and I alone sat in my room.

Having a day of rest once in awhile is nice. I wish I had more days completely to myself--I cherish them! I hope you enjoyed your first January 21st holiday!
