I have had some idiosyncratic bosses. There was this guy who would stir his coffee with his pencil. And have you heard of someone who would be more concerned with commas and full stops than with the substance of a letter? How about this guy who tortured you just because you accepted the job to work for someone higher than him? And a boss who signed blank papers and asked me to fill up the stuff -you might call it trust. Right? But no. I was mortified. The one I hated the most was the one who never delegated.
When I became the boss I saw to it that I never did any of these things! And my idiosyncrasy was to be perfect - no subordinate likes that!!
You too must be having some interesting experiences. Do share.

I am still on my studies and I did not find any boss in my life. I am on my way to it. I hope I will get a good nice boss with human emotions who loves as well who gives us the freedom to the works and our doings.

Working under bosses who are idiosyncratic is no easy feat. I have gone through that. As long as one needs the job there is nothing one can do about it but go along!

I find this discussion interesting, as I can plainly see I am from a "different cut of cloth!" No matter the job that I have had in the past, some menial, some high-powered, MANY of them with bosses with idiosynchracies, I ALWAYS remembered at the end of the day...WHOM signed the paycheck!

Where have I been??? One "FLU" over the cuckoo's nest and landed...on this "cuckoo's" nest! The little BUG.ger pulled the rug out from underneath me...one very, very sick puppy! Jan.2 'til yesterday...UGH!!
My friend, stirring coffee with a pencil, offensive, I concur! I have stories that I cannot relate here!

We were handling Admin and this guy had several sections under him and one such section I was handling which among other things included organising conferences where there used to be several foreigners from different countries. Ours was a multinational and 'class' emanated from my section. With that as the background how could a guy like this be tolerated.
Hope you are back on your feet now so that I can see you here again. Hope all else is well with you.

But I am sure you did not have one who stirred coffee with his pencil. All other bosses I tolerated but not this one!
Where have you been?

Have you really had all of these bosses. Sounds like a tv sitcom. Remember Murphy Brown and all her secretaries. Stirring coffee with a pencil.. ewww. Believe it or not, I totally understand the grammar-obsessed boss because, like you, I become obsessed with being perfect... therefore, I am never perfect. But thank goodness nobody is.

I have had pretty long innings in this office and this guy who stirred coffee with a pencil I reported him. He was sacked
What has been your experience with your bosses. Or is it that you never had bossess and you were bossing around with your perfection making everyone go bonkers!?

My experiences with bosses or immediate heads also vary much. My first superior was a Psychologist who uses obsolete psyche evaluation tools. When I came she got new tools since I was fresh from the university. Then my next boss was a Chinese who believes that their employees would not find better employer than them. They abuse their staff. What I did was I make them depend on me since I was their secretary then when I was able to earn their trust, I left them with no goodbyes. Then my next immediate head was the best because she taught me what I know now. Then when she cannot teach me enough, she encouraged me when I plan to leave the company to grow from outside. Now, I reached the peak of my career. I became a manager... and now a consultant. I have the same attitude, to try to teach my subordinates so that someday, they will become managers or consultants too.

Yours is truly a colourful experience. As long as the company we work for is good there is no choice but to tolerate funny bosses. I too had some good bosses but I only mentioned those who were queer!

I was working for a multinational and we had standards. I reported the matter to Management and he was sacked immediately. He had other bad habits too.
