Changing something you like.

If you had an iconic character you like and you are a huge fan of it. Will you be pissed if the company that creates that character in the first place decides to change its look, personality, and the environment. Or rather change everything that you know and love about this character. Let's say you like Hello Kitty or Mickey Mouse. If Sanrio decides to change Hello Kitty into a black kitty and make her a goth or Disney decides to change Mickey Mouse into a grumpy white mouse, would you be angry? Would you complain about that? This is exactly what is happening to the franchise Devil May Cry. They change main character into a completely different person and just slap the name Dante on him.

Please do not change Mickey Mouse. His character is near perfect already. However, I can accept if they just get him temporary change to suit the festival mood like Christmas, Valentine and Chinese New Year. After the season, he must come back to the original characteristic. I believe many fans will make lots of noise! I have not heard of Devil May Cry character. Does this available in Malaysia?

Yes he's a video game character and the game is available in Malaysia. You just have to go search for it. (I played Devil May Cry 4 and it's my favorite game) But compare Devil May Cry 1,2,3,4 to DmC. Then you'll understand what I mean. I also accept if Mickey Mouse is change temporarily to suit the festival mood like Chinese New Year, Christmas and etc. But permanently change Mickey Mouse into something else is something that I don't like.

Ah...I forgot to comment this before the DMC response... Before Mickey Mouse was that cute jolly lil' children's cartoon character...He was popularly known as Mortimer Mouse (I think it was dated around 50's). Not only did Mickey had a change of name but also of personality. Before, the cartoon was very disturbing and morbid/brutal. Mortimer uses hammers, chainsaws and other freaking scary weapons on his enemies, usually the fat cat. This was because the cartoons weren't made for kids before. Since cartoon is 'new' to people's viewing, even adults enjoyed it. They change Mortimer's name to Mickey and made another mouse with the same name, Mortimer, who's a thin & tall mouse and acts as Mickey's rival. Bet you didn't know that. Now I think some changes are necessary and not only to make characters interesting _

I know changes are necessary but what if they take a well liked iconic character and change it into something else that tries too hard to be cool and comes off as a rude potty mouth instead of something interesting. I know the history of Mickey Mouse. I know that he's Mortimer Mouse before and they change him.

Vergil looks so cool for me too and I think his change is much awesome than Dante's. But I'm still a Dante fan since he's funny in his own way. I want to watch a walk through too so I could see more comparison but I'd like to play it too so I'll try to wait until I could afford the game so I wouldn't spoil the story for myself.

I don't care about the hair or his look. I actually like his new look and I like Vergil's new look as well. But I really don't like his personality. I don't think the new Dante is any younger than the DMC3 Dante. You do realize I already watched the walk through of the new game. I rather just skip this new DmC and wait for the next one which is Vergil's Downfall because after seeing that DmC game walkthrough I felt like I'm liking Vergil more than Dante.

Never mind the Vergil's Downfall because I realise is a DLC for DmC and not a separate mini game or something.

I would be angry and complain, but I wouldn't write demanding letters, that would be too far. But it's an insult to the fans and people who got used to the older setting... just because they hope some profit boost?...

hmm.. do they supposed to just have another character as antagonist to the main character at least the spoof I see for hello kitty and mickey mouse. Hmmm maybe they were imitations from China.. just kidding. That's the call of the creator, if something is flopping it has to be repackaged and give a new kick to the product. It can stay that way forever because no one is buying the idea anymore. Have you noticed yourself, if you get used to having such a hairstyle, you will suddenly think of changing it. Then many people will notice you, praise you, tease you and so on... you have changed your "packaging too" it is just the same with your discussion.

If I am a fan of Hello Kitty, I won't accept if they hello kitty character just for their sell can be up. I don't think I will buy new character hello kitty. I will complain to the company, how can they change hello kitty character. Maybe I will still love old character hello kitty but not the new one hello kitty

I won't blame the company- sometimes they only follow what the customer's need and wants (that's marketing) But I don't think I will ever appreciate Mickey Mouse ever again (with grumpy looks)

if the company is changing their image, it should be a change of ownershi. that's what i know based on marketing. Maybe they want to grab bigger fans profile. They will spend bigger cost only to change their image. just sharing !
