I FINALLY got some sleep last night, after giving in and taking a sleeping pill. I got up this morning a bit groggy but feeling much better. I noticed a red catnip mouse laying in the doorway to my bedroom. It looked like it had been carefully positioned there to catch my attention. It isn't one of the usual toys that the cats play with so it seemed a bit strange to me but I wasn't thinking in that direction, I was thinking in the direction of the bathroom. Then I noticed Willy sitting at the end of the hallway, patiently waiting with his paws curled under his chest and his tail curled around his thighs. He was definitely waiting for me to get up and show my reaction to his "gift".
I stepped over the mouse and started to the bathroom, until I saw his face fall...I could see the disappointment in his beautiful blue kitty eyes! I turned around immediately and exclaimed over the mouse and what a wonderful gift it was and I wondered who gave it to me. I picked it up and turned to go back to the bathroom and there was a flash of white and at my feet was a happy purring excited Willy!!! We spent 15 minutes of sheer love, my telling him how wonderful the gift was and how wonderful he was for thinking of me. It so reminded me of a 5 year old when they picked "flowers" for Mommy (the flowers that are actually weeds...dandelions for one) and are so excited and expectant of a huge hug and kiss for their gift. Willy was so totally thrilled and for the first time in his life he actually purred out loud!!!
It doesn't seem like much to most people, but Willy reminds me of Hoss Cartwright on Bonanza, he is a big cat that isn't too graceful and definitely NOT athletic. He is so loving and is a constant companion and nurturer. Each morning he will lay beside me when I sit having my morning tea and breakfast. If I am working on bears he is laying beside the work site or on the work table. At night he sleeps at my side touching my hand with his paw. I couldn't disappoint a big kid like that by ignoring his wonderful gift! Could you????

Aww... Give him a hug from me, too.
Our two oldest cats are very much about bringing gifts. Middle cat is especially vocal about her catches, but our male cat will get chatty as well when he has made a great catch.
"Baby" cat is more of the sort to want to be the lap cat. The older two have taught her the importance of doing this, since she is a former barn cat. I can't remember her ever bringing us gifts, but she does gift us with her presence. Althugh, I think that the older two cats wouldn't always call that a gift...

I love your story and I love your cat too. He so sweet, how can he think to give you a gift? are you do something for him before? and what are you do for him? Because from what i know, the cat will give a gift to us, if we have been do something for him, so he will thinking to return back to us.

All of my furry babies (both dogs and cats) are spoiled horribly. I think that when Willy was a kitten he thought that no one would love him unconditionally because he wasn't a "cute" kitten. He was tubby, short legged, had a short tail, clumsy, and had bags under his eyes. He definitely wasn't the typical cute kitten. I fell for him head over heels and adopted both him and his brother on the spot. His brother Khuay is adorable and everyone falls madly in love with him the instant they see him. At the time I adopted the pair my granddaughters were living with me and they instantly fell in love with Khuay and totally ignored Willy. I almost smothered him with total love and attention. He flourished and became so attached to me that he wouldn't leave my side and would walk at my side and would curl up where ever I was. He is totally "MY" cat! So when ever he thinks I need it, he brings me a "gift". It is so wonderful and in a way heart breaking because there are times that he will bring a gift and you can see it in his eyes that he is feeling down and is wondering if I still love him even though his brother can catch mice and he isn't able to.
I try not to have favorites with my animals but Willy has such a special place in my heart because he reminds me so much of me and how I was when I was growing up. I was as unsure of the love given to me, and I would go out of my way to give gifts to brighten people's days...especially if I knew they were feeling blue or depressed.
I am going to have to post a picture of him...I'm going to check to see if I have one stored on the computer so I can do it now... You can't see it, but he has a spotted nose...and it is still growing spots!

I bought him a new toy today, and he came strolling in and dropped another "gift" at my feet...another cat nip mouse! You can't ask for a better "child"! If you have a chance refer back to the discussion and you can see a picture of Sweet Willy.
