What's The Big Deal About What The First Lady Wears?

Why is everyone so focused on Michelle Obama's fashion? Why aren't they all over what designer Barack is wearing? If it was the other way around, and she was 'President Obama" and he was "First Man," would they leave her alone, and be all over his fashion, or are they all over her fashion because of her gender? I liked what she wore yesterday (red is my favourite colour) and I like what he wore yesterday (I don't think I've ever seen him in anything but a black suit! Is that the only one he has? Who designed it?) Fortunately the Croats invented the Kravat (of course you know I mean the neck tie) allowing him to have a spash of colour. Anyway, if I was First Lady, or better yet if I was President, I'd do a lot of shopping at Macy's because it's not overly expensive and I like the stuff, and I'd wear a lot of purple. Think about it! Red may be my favourite clour, and blue may be a close second, but if I was a politician, or political spouse, purple would best represent the fact that I'd want to try and bring both sides together. I find it so interesting that people are so obsessed with First Lady Fashion, when up here in Canada, no one can tell you from day to day what Prime Minister Harper or his wife wore.

I think it has something to do with the fact that she is relatively young and attractive, and is expected to be stylish. I never heard much discussion about Mrs. Bush, or Mrs. Clinton, or Mrs Reagan not that I likely would notice much This sort of thing is what killed Diana, constant badgering and invasion of her privacy - taking photos of the poor woman while she was working out in the gym! Such bad taste, really.

I think to some extent Diana liked the attention because it did help her to win support for some of her beliefs but what killed her was a car accident/

I guess it was better than the Walmart clothes she usually wears.

My guess is that the Presidential speech was so mundane, boring, and uninteresting, the media decide The First Lady's dress was a much better story and would net more readers.

Just because you might disagree with the politics, doesn't mean it was boring.

I suppose it's not much different from when the Oscars or Emmy Awards occur. The networks pay more attentionto what the ladies wear than who wins the awards.

Of course in Canada you probably don't care what the Queen wears because she's older and dowdy. But Princess Kate, there's another deal.

This behavior has been going on since President Kennedy and his wife, Jacqueline Kennedy were in office. Whatever Jacqueline Kennedy was wearing was big news and she brought fashion to the forefront. She I don't believe intended for this to happen it was that people were struck by her fashion and it all caught on from there. Even her hairstyles and her famous pillbox hats were big news. Now that Michelle Obama has bangs watch that will be the new hairdo for many. Everyone wearing bangs.

Michelle Obama looked great in the bangs, and it made her look much younger. I have never liked bangs on me, and I will never have them, no matter how stylish they become.

I like for those who represent the USA to look classy. BUT I have a problem though with those who think because a person wears expensive clothes, they are classy.

I honestly don't know what to tell you on people and the medias fascination on what she and Kate Middleton wear. I think it is absolutely unreal ... I haven't gotten the slightest clue on how much their clothes would cost, but I bet it's not cheap or purchased from Walmart! I guess clothing designers are hoping that if someone "famous" wears their outfits that people will come to them for future business, order the same kind of outfits, etc.

Since Michelle Obama is a celebrity, so she will be the focus in public. It is just like Princess Diana in the past. What she wore could bring a trend. Do you know those gowns that Michelle Obama wore come from a designer in Taiwan? Perhaps he is an Asian and Michelle Obama still chose his design from all the famous designers. So this is why people feel curious about it.

I don't think every one is so focused on Michelle Obama's fashion except few media network reporters and talk show hostesses. They are not just focus on her fashion, they are indeed very obsessed with everything about her. May be these people in the media business consider it is very important for our nation and all Americans to know about first lady's life's details including her taste in clothing, fashion and color since her husband just got re-elected, she is as much as powerful as her spouse. You can't never tell how far can obsession travel...

The first lady brings a lot of attention to the nation and to the world. It is fashionable to emulate what she wears and does. Your are in the style and the trend to follow what she wears. I can remeber so many converstions over Jackie o's hats as a hild. When you are in the first family everyone seems to want to go with what you are and what you wear.

This is the US and a small fraction of people there seems to be obsessed in what their leaders and celebrities wear. I guess in it is the same. But the US has a larger piece of land and any thing going there is bound to catch attention. Even what the First Lady wears. It is also a national event and a ton of people will be watching and wondering. some news outlets cater to that specific people and it gets broadcasted into mainstream media. These who don't care less will nevertheless hear or see it without their permission. If she dress nice and sensibly, I don't see why there should be a talk about it. I think she knows she ought to be presentable but it doesn't mean she have to break a bank or a designer house just to get soemtihng to wear for the occasion.

I don't remember what she wore. My daughter mentioned that she was wearing a new hair do, but again, I didn't notice anything different. I know that Nancy Reagan wore $10,000 dresses. I thought it was a bit much when there were so many struggling in the country. The First Lady and the President are much like royalty. I don't hover over every word that the media reports. Maybe I'm just not appreciative enough, but I just don't really care what either of them wear. It's just do superficial.

I saw the dress, that Michell Obama was wearing, I don't like red, and I didn't like that dress, the reason for the big deal, about what she wore, was because it helped out another, dress desirer who ever that was.
