No respect for women....Why?

I think women are the foundation of society. They builds the society. There is a great contribution of in our society. But also they are not getting respect for their contribution. They are always treated as second classs citizen in most of the societies s. Why it is so ? What is its reason?

Maybe because males are stronger physically, thus they did all the killing the mammoths kind of thing... so, even though the females' work and job was contributing as much as the males' to living a nice life back then... well, killing a mammoth is more spectacular... and this was abused... but that's only my theory.
