I think that a dual boot would have been more interesting to be able to use Linux software on the move. I have installed Debian as a dual boot on an old Palm Lifedrive PDA to give it a new life two years ago. My main goal was to be able to use Linux software with no equivalence for the Palm where I was away from my notebook or laptop. The problem is that it needs a long time to boot and works slowly. A recent smartphone would be more faster, but a phone cannot replace a laptop actually. Somebody discovering Ubuntu with a smartphone will probably never install Ubuntu on a real computer...

I have checked it... but I also saw a video demo on a Galaxy Nexus and I noticed that the speed was not there. It is good enough for a light word processor or spreadsheet like Abiword or Gnumeric, but it would be slow as hell to edit a 10 Mp picture with Gimp. It can be used as a temporary fix during a laptop repair but I would not recommend it as a complete laptop replacement. But it is just the beginning of this kernel sharing solution between 2 Linux OS, and many light Linux flavors more efficient than Ubuntu -- which is designed first for desktop computers -- will probably be offered in a few months. Wait and see.
