I know the mother of this little girl and how she really takes care and love her two kids, she always needs to have the air-con on for her children to feel comfortable all the time. However, one day the 4-year-old girl just told everyone at the canteen while her mother was nowhere to be seen that they are now sleeping in a hotel and not in their home. The nosy part of me asked, why and she said that their air-con is broken. The following day she said the same thing again, that they are sleeping in the hotel. On the third day she talked about using candles and flashlight in their home, so I again asked her why and she said that their lights are also broken. It's been a week already and I think they only slept in the hotel for two days and now they're back at home and I asked if she could sleep without the air-con and she said yes because her mother is just fanning them. This made me conclude that their power supply must have been cut or disconnected. The bills might have been too high for them to pay, but it's been a week already. We did not get the real story from the mother but it was the little girl who kept telling everyone that they are using flashlight in the living room and a candle in the bathroom. I know I have to mind my own business but do you think the family is spending more than they could afford?

That is really sad. Now a days I think most people are struggling in the same way. My electric might be getting shut off soon as well if my husband does not get paid from this job by Monday... We shall see. It is very common for this to happen, there is not enough money coming in for people to be able to afford their basic bills and needs. We are struggling with getting food in the house and keeping our lights on. I don't think it's the mother's fault, things are tough on many people right now...

No, the power is not back yet as the little girl told me this morning that their air-con is still broken. That means everything else is still "broken," including the lights.

I think sometimes we don't want to be nosey. But when we see that something is wrong we can't help but be one. My suspicion is the same as yours, my friend. Their electricity could have probably been cut off. But how can she still let themselves stay in a hotel when she could have just saved the money for the hotel to pay off the electricity bill, if it was really the case. That's the problem if you are used to having a high cost of living, even when your means isn't that high.

Most people are spending more as they can afford. In many cases there is no way to spend less. Bills need to be payed and if your income is not increasing there is no other option as pay first what is most needed. Sorry to say but there are plenty of people who do without an airco and live without electricity. It's freezing over here and I am not able to put on the heath on whole day either. After 7pm there is no heath either. Food is more important as the heath. You simmply can't spend what you don't have. We use candles and flashlights as well. If she is really not able to pay for the electricity I think it was a waste of money to stay in a hotel.

I thin you are about their power supply being disconnect and you are right as well for saying it's not our business but I learned something from this story, we should be careful of giving too much because it might end up giving nothing in the end. In this case, the parents should be teaching her kids to save money and energy and just settle with something they could afford.

You are right Verna. It's more than a week already. I met the girl this morning and asked her if the air-con is now "fixed' and she said it's still broken.

Staying in a hotel is very costly. She should make a payment plan for her utilities instead of using that money for a hotel. The mother should prioritize her bills as opposed to keeping the air conditioner running for her children. By her comforting them by keeping them cool... In actuality it's causing those children discomfort and humiliation living in a hotel room. They're are other forms of cooling off. Sometimes you have to sacrifice things, especially for the sake of your children. BTW... I would've been nosy too... You're only showing your concern.

There really are a lot if people who spends more than they earn. Just this morning, I learned from my son that my brother in law borrowed 1.5 Million pesos from my in laws because he need to pay the balance for the condominium unit he purchased. Then I thought that if he really didn't have much income, why did he have to buy the unit. He also bought a car the same time he bought the condo unit. And also, he couldn't pay the monthly dues so he asked my in laws again for the money. Isn't it kinda stupid to be wanting to have it all and yet you really could not afford it?

using an aircon all the time can really cause electricity bill to go high, maybe because of the fact that they are always using the aircon their electricity bill got high and they were not able to pay for it that it got disconnected., what else could be the reason why they are only using candles in their house? if the little girl is telling the truth or just making up stories, we are not sure until we hear the real story from the mother herself. well, if that is the case, they should learn and try to use aircon when it is necessary, but also we cannot control how some people would live their life..so this is just an assumption.

Hi That's really sad. yes many people are suffering because of the electricity bills. I think many of them even using the candles on safe side to get the low bills. This kid would have suffered bad.
