At a press conference Senator Feinstein had a list of guns to ban and then listed the guns. In the Assault Rifle Ban legislation Congress passed several years ago a gun could be banned if it had a pistol style grip as the AR 15 had. The manufacturer simply removed the pistol grip and the gun was legal. If Senator Feinstein introduces her list of guns to ban what is stopping to gun makers to simply change the design and call it something different as they did with the AR 15.
Back in the 1960's and the terrorists that were attacking the country had the police at a disadvantage. The bad guys were equipped with machine guns and assault weapons while the police had small caliber pistols to fight them with. Many of the new gun control laws being talked about would again put the police and other law enforcement at a disadvantage as many of the have pistols that have magazines larger than 7 or 10 shots.
It is time to get real and deal with the real problem and that is the number of mentally ill people who are unsupervised living in public and the people who are just plane evil. With the mental ill we need to provide better treatment and supervised housing for those who need it. We need to have easier ways to get people in for an evaluation. Now the easiest way to to have the person get in trouble with the law and hope they get treatment and not jail time. With the evil people we need tougher laws and mandatory sentencing such as 10 years extra and no parole for committing a crime with a gun.

How are we supposed to identify mentally ill people? There's no blood test or x-ray that indicates someone is mentally ill. Some people might realize that they have a problem and seek help, but are they the people that are going to be a problem or is somebody who thinks he is normal and doesn't feel he needs help? And just suppose somebody acts strange, does that make them mentally ill or just eccentric?
