As I was told to learn to save money, and budget for the future, living in frugal; but most of the time, I would go off track again and again. Sometimes, I just couldn't resist the temptation and overspend again. There is a devil inside of me that I have to learn to conquer. There were a couple of young people who are in their late 20s, they are truly living in a frugal way, and I really admire their ways to handle their money. A lady who contribute at least 15% to 20% of her income to 401k, later in her retirement age, she might live in her comfort. While I don't contribute much, because I afraid that I don't have enough to spend. Also, there is a guy who don't use those fancy phones, he got one of those old model, and he told me that, it would be best to call him after 9:00 P.M. if there is no emergency. Because during that hours, the calling minutes are unlimited. I truly admire them, and they are still younger than me. They already knew how to save money, and live the way according to their budget. I look at myself, I still have to learn from them in so many ways.

Why you need is self discipline, you need control and you are the in the best form to do it. However it always depend on your determination. You knew your weaknesses then there is no problem if your really want to change.

Self Discipline is a good one to have but not easy to build up.

I tottally agree, I absolutely admire people who can save like that. I personally love to shop and hate saving money, so this doesn't seem like something I'll be able to do in the future.

I do also admire people who can be very frugal. My mother was that way. She could live on next to nothing and have her extras. I think it is smart to atleast check for the lower price and not just frivolously buy whatever at whatever price. It is a good practice.

if you keep on overspending, when are you going to retire? It might be better for you to increase your contribution to 401k. You will not miss the money once you have contributed to it. There is no "in case" you need money because you know that you cannot spend the money. Saving 20% of income is no big deal. Many of us save 50%, and that is just the norm in many Asian countries, especially China. A person who can save 70% is extraordinary, but not those who save just 50%.

It's so difficult to get yourself into a groove where living frugally and saving money become second nature. For years and years I tried really hard to live frugally. It wasn't until my boys were diagnosed at opposite ends of the autism spectrum and l stopped working so I could care for them did I learned the art of budgeting. Being on a Carers Pension, I've had to scrimp and save in order to make ends meet :) Good luck with your saving. You will get into the swing of it, you just need something to motivate you ;)

Well you can get things you want by not really being super frugal. These days alot of things that are cheaper than the normal prices it is just depends on the brand anyways. A lot of things have just higher value because of the brands they have. take for example in dresses, there are dresses that are really so expensive but why go pick those dresses if you can buy way way cheaper with just the same material it is just that no brand in it. It is how you see things. If you are not that materialistic about things then you can go all the way . Invest money wisely than buying things that arent really valuable It is just not making sense to buy a thousand worth when in fact you could have it for a dollar.

It is really hard to live frugally in this day and time when people are spending too much on clothes, new gadgets, new cellphones, cars and lavish travel abroads. Why do you think they can afford this? Credit cards! It is very easy to swipe away right? Me and my husband do not have credit cards, we try to avoid them and the temptations that they entail, we have many bills to pay and our income is really very minimal compared to most people i know. But guess what? We have 3 children to send to school to, bills to pay, and yet we end up with saving in our bank. We try to budget everything and being smart about it. We do not spend on nonsense things, i even have this old cellphone that have been with me for 5 years already and i still love it. Call us cheap but we have money...and we are planning to save up even more to own our very own dream house...someday:)

I admire people who know how to save money too. I have been trying so hard to find ways on how I can save money. I have a tendency to overspend money and I don't like it. Sometimes, my monthly salary would end up going to my payable. My mother keep talking to me about saving and how it can help me have a better life in the future. I am aware of its benefits too but I really find it hard to save. My bestfriend and I have the same issue and we keep reminding ourselves that we need to live in a frugal way or we'll end up with nothing at all. My bestfriend even earns more than I do and she's still not able to save. It makes me think that saving is a skill or talent because others are really good at it.

Man can live on very little if you have that mindset. Many unfortuntely don't, especially if you are young. I have lived most of my life frugally. I just don't see the purpose of spending when you don't have. That is why I don't have credit card debt nor do I have a cell phone. Thankfully our mortgage has been paid off completely. Where I live the house is ours free and clear where we don't have property taxes like the states do. Our biggest bill is the food bill but that is because my hubby likes to eat. I eat to survive he eats because he loves foods. You should try and put more money into your 401K and take something away from yourself that you are wasting money on. Maybe coffee from a shop everyday!

It is good to save money I do. I did my whole life (since I live alone since I am 15). I can tell you there are plenty of times I have nothing left over (mostly for me) because Always bills seems to come in between my saving plans. Also there is a big part that I am hardly able to live or have some fun. A friend once said: you have to live and have fun as well. She used her creditcard for all kind of vacations, did relax (at least I assume) and back home somehow managed to pay off all the bills. Personally I would not be able to celebrate a vacation if I know back home I have a lot of bills to pay (and even more) but somehow I do admire her for that. The longer you live a sober life, the less fun there is, the harder it is to save, to save for later.. and at a certain point you will discover that "later" already started a long time ago. I think if it's worth it for you, spend (as long as you are able to pay off. If you save, save for something you need or want, that way you have something to look forward to. I doubt I will ever live a great life when I am old. The economics is not like that anymore. What you save now might be worthless in 5, 10 or 20 years. It's useless to have a pension and pay for that, all people who did have way less now as once promised. To learn how to save is what I learned from my parents and I do the same with my children. A part they save for later/their future, a part they can save to buy something they like now. You could start saving automatically. Each time you get your income you put a (small) amount aside on a bankaccount and do not use it, no matter what happens. You have to start with it at once. Even if you have to pay off other bills otherwise it won't work.

With the responsibilities I have and with the little money I earn I have no choice but to live in frugal life. But yes that is very admirable. A little act will surely go a long way. This is also true, they say live simply.. spend wisely. That will all be for the future. I just hope that they will not feel burn out after a few years of hard work and a little spending for simple leisure. Speaking for myself, I have lived frugal life, but it came to a point that I felt burn out, so tired and little spending for myself. However I have outgrown it. After resting and spend a little leisurely. I know now that I need to treat myself too sometimes.

It is important to save money for emergency purposes, that's true. But then make sure to still have fun every once in a while. If you have extra 10, you can save 5 for emergency and do whatever you want with the other 5 because come to think of it it's nice to enjoy your money too while you still can. Spending money isn't a bad thing, money is a worldly object anyway. It's not something you can bring once you leave this world.

With all the latest gadgets and designer clothes and bags, one is having a hard time to resist the temptation of spending. But we must realize that all of these things are not important in our daily lives. We must learn to save something for our future.

Living simply, is the main secret of living frugally. Since you are living simply, you have simple needs , thus lesser expense. To live frugally, is a matter of self discipline. You have to have a motivation, why you live frugally, like you want to save some for big household appliances or luxury , or you want to live within your means so you won't incur a lot of debts. Sometimes also, we have to start young in living frugally, and like what the guy is doing, you should strategize in doing things so you could save a lot on expenses.

Being frugal can really help in the long run. Its a huge life change though if you aren't that way already. I am somewhat frugal except in certain areas, I will spend my extra money on things I shouldn't like everyone.

I think I have to learn from them as well. Sometimes if I can't control myself I tend to overspend too. However I really try to save money from time to time. It is good as well to spend money wisely. Thanks for the reminders.
