gym members who are always talking and just sitting....

I have noticed that in the gym where I work out, there are so many members who are there simply to socialize. They just sit around, exercise a little, and talk a lot. I hate these members because aside from the noise they create they also block some equipment. There are some members, the new ones, who sit at the equipment even when they are not using them. I wanted to use the machines but there they are sitting on them. I don't want to be rude by asking them to stand up or get out of the machine because they might still want to use it, but can't they sit elsewhere and come back for it later, instead of sit there doing nothing?
When I am in the gym I waste no time because I am always in a hurry. I hop from one machine to another and do my routines in less than an hour. However when the machines I wanted to use are occupied, I need to wait and so I finish my routine at a later time.

It's really annoying! I wonder what's their real intention in going to that gym if that's the case? Besides, they should let other people to use the equipment if they were not using it. Aside from that, gym is not a place for socialization. It's a place for fitness! :)

I've worked in this industry for years and people are always doing that. However, they usually move if you ask if they are using a machine or they'll finish and get up. If that doesn't work find a gym employee, it's their job to coordinate the fitness floor.

Quite a number of people go to gym to socialize. I just do my exercise and only chat back during my break. If there is a guy sitting and talking on the machine I want to use, I would just ask him nicely if I can use it for a while. That way I keep fit and socialize too :)

I am also a member of a reputed gym in my hometown.Yes,i too have noticed this.people just sit in any equipment and start talking with one another. But as i don't work out in gym alone,i work oput with my partner, therefore i did not face any problems like that. But one of my friend who is also a member there,he once had to wait for one hour to run in treadmill, because two boys were using that and both were talking to each other and they were not running. But recently our instructor also noticed it(the reason of recent notice is that he is a very busy man and he travels from one country to another) and he strictly warns them about these activities.

I went out with a guy who said he went to the fitness center on a regular basis. So, one day, I went with him. He swam the length of the pool and back. I swam next to him, thinking that this is a great way to get some exercise. But after one lap, back and forth, he got out of the pool and sat in the hot tub for about 15 minutes. I sat with him, thinking that at any moment, he is going to get back in the pool. Then he did get out and took a cold shower. The showers were next to the sauna. Yep, you got it, he sat in the sauna and so, I sat with him. When he got too hot, and I was complaining, we got out and then, he swam the length of the pool and back. Then, got into the hot tub. Then, the cold shower, then the sauna. And he repeated this several times.
It was the last time I went to the fitness center with him and soon after that, I ditched the guy. It wasn't my idea of exercising. But he thought it was.
