Racoon in the Street with a Cat After It

My dad was bored here I guess after dinner and was just looking out the window in the dining room when he saw a big ole racoon kind of running (walking very fast) up the hill across the street in the street near the curb. The neighbor's black cat was after it too, although not tooo close yet. My brother went out and chased the cat back down the hill so it would turn back away from it.
I was worried the raccoon had rabies, & really don't want the cat getting bit by it or otherwise attacked. Sometimes cats just don't realize things like that. This one cat is let loose alot outdoors, he once lost his collar with his name on it in our yard on the fence too. This is not even when it's totally dark yet at about 5 p.m., maybe that racoon was scared out of the sewer nearby again somewhere.
I have seen several around here over the years. One time before it started to rain one went barrelling rapidly in back of the fence in the yard as if something was chasing it, and scared the heebee-jeebees out of me. We have skunks and possum too but in the winter we normally don't see much of them really.
All I can say is I'm glad my cat saw it before it was too late.

We have alot of racoons in this area. The cats fight with them all the time. Our old tomcat, Sabbath, comes home occasionally with cuts from run ins with them. The racoons get pretty big too. My cats would probably come to my rescue if one came at me anyway. The dumbheads.

Oh wow, they shouldn't do that. I know it is rather difficult to explain to a cat though. But they are hunters and sometimes territorial with any animals. My cat Joey would have went after the animal too most likely. He had ran after and attacked dogs before when he was alive. He was one tough kitty.
This raccoon was one of the biggest ones I have seen. I do hope it went back into the sewer.

I have seen some big ones. About the size of a medium sized dog. Grampas probably.

never seen that before... something natural to see. I love all kinds of animals.
