Who'd Be the Best 'Companion' if DOCTOR WHO Were Made into an American Movie?

If DOCTOR WHO were made into an American movie today, the best Companion (or is that 'the best The Companion?') would be Sara Gilbert (Darlene on Roseanne, Dr. Leslie (I forget the last name) on The Big Bang Theory).
Because The Doctor needs a slacker Companion, after his recent series of needy, nerdy, geeky housewife-girls. And Sara Gilbert is the ultimate slacker-girl.
Tell me how much you agree, and why

Good soldier-girls. I think The Doctor needs more of a peace-loving hippie-chick

But the Doctor doesn't usually turn up in places where things are peaceful. If he did, the show would be very dull.

Maybe that's the way some people might say The Doctor is 'Lucifer' ('the angel who brings light' to show us we're going the wrong way---the angel who became Satan out of his jealousy for G*d's position ... especially in The Doctor's recent, less-grandfatherly, more-virile 'manifestations' (It's been long-enough since I've seen it, I don't even remember what the 'transformations'(?) are called))
It might be 'interesting' to see how The Doctor works upon the hippie-chick to turn her into a blood-hungry war-queen!

Why ruin something that is perfect and quintessentially British and make it into an American film...
It would be grass and bad - British does not translate.

Was STAR WARS British? I don't think so. I think it was American, and--running on that assumption--I think I can safely say that 'making it American' is the BEST way to move the show from television (I almost spelled it 'telly-vision') to cinema!

The first Star Wars movie was filmed in England. The production costs were cheaper there at the time. Don't forget that other than the three main actors, most of the others were British.

Why should it have to be a currently known actress? It does not seem appropriate to choose someone purely on the basis of their current character in a program since they would be playing a totally different role. The whole idea would be to create a new character rather than have someone play a part that people already know since the story has a different context.

I'm not 'citing' Sara Gilbert's past characters to tell you what the DOCTOR WHO-character will be like, but rather to tell you who she is! And 'slacker' is a WAY-broader character-description than can specifically describe those characters!
Anyway, I think the people watching movies are more-interested in 'if it's cool' than 'if it's artistically valid.' (Case-in-point: the box-office figures for Joel Schumacher's BATMAN-movies (BATMAN FOREVER & BATMAN & ROBIN) And cool movies sell popcorn (which is the only way movie theatres make money ... the money for tickets sometimes doesn't even cover the cost of the film-copy!)

Personally I don't think that making Dr Who into an American movie would be that much of a good thing. I'm not saying America doesn't make good films and TV shows including brilliant Science Fiction, it's just that when American film and TV makers remake British shows it quite often doesn't turn out that well. There has already been a Dr Who film that had American involvement and it is not liked by a significant amount of Dr Who fans.

Sara Gilbert would be an interesting choice. I would have never thought of her, but I'd like to see that!
I would love to see Alison Brie as a companion. She plays such a wide variety of characters that I'm sure she'd be great with anything.
