Have breakfast before or after jogging?

This might be a silly question. I want to start exercising in the morning so.I am thinking that I can go for jogging in the morning. I don't know if I should have breakfast like I always do, before going for a run or after. It is said that we should not eat 2 hours before exercising but I think I won't be strong enough to exercise properly if I don't have my breakfast or at least a light snack. What do you think I should do?

I'm thinking in terms of energy for the run. So I suggest a light meal before. That way it isn't too much to eat before and you can still jog but you won't fall down from hunger from the run!

That is what I also had in mind! I am not sure what would a fitness trainer or a doctor advise me though! I am eating a light breakfast anyway but I think I will really need the energy before jogging! I might try both, I am planning to start my morning exercise this week!

Yes, you should eat but not many. you might throw up or feel very heavy.. then eat after and then take a shower... then go back to sleep. LOL. I don't job. I can't run.

After excercising I just want to have a shower and eat! Lol
This happened to me with the gym and the fitness classes, but I am not one of the people who usually go running before work! I hope I will do ok and enjoy it! Unfortunately after the breakfast-shower, I will have to get ready for work! Let's see how it goes!

Honestly, I have done both. It all depends on when you get up. For my earlier runs (around 6 AM), I will just have a granola bar and some water and then head out the door. If I wake up later in the morning (8 or 9 AM), then I'll go ahead and eat a normal breakfast, wait an hour or two, and then go running.
I had the same concern that if I ran without eating I would not have enough stamina/strength. However, I found that once you start running, you don't really feel hungry. You especially don't feel hungry if running is practically the first thing you do once you get out of bed. After all, if you wait around too long your body will probably start to realize that it's on empty.
If you're feeling up to it, I say try running before eating breakfast. Just have a quick granola bar and some water, and then go for a two or three mile run and see how you feel!
It's really nice to run in the mornings while the sun is still coming up! :)

Thanks for the advice, it is good to get an answer from someone who has tried both! My breakfast is usually light but I guess it will be better to wake up and go running instead of getting in the process of preparing breakfast. Then I will definitely be hungry! I am planning to make a schedule and I will start this week. I never go for running outside, I used to live in the city and had no parks in my area so I was going to the gym. But now I am at the countryside and I believe it will be great and I will enjoy the nature as well!

I don't jog, but I am on a diet so I think (THINK is the key word) you should have something light before you run and then maybe something light after. When I say light, maybe something like a fruit cup or bagel..nothing like pancakes or anything like that..

Hello! Thanks, I am not sure either! I want to do this right and I remember that when I joined the gym last year,.I was advised to avoid food 2 hrs before going there. But I was going to the gym in the afternoon so I was just careful with my lunch! Now I am afraid that I will feel very tired quickly if I have nothing to eat. It sounds more reasonable to have something light before jogging in the morning.
