Why Do They 'Always Save the Best for Last' if It's Always 'Ladies First'?

I think you're mixing your metaphors and you are just going to confuse yourself.
I believe 'ladies first' is typically in reference to getting on a train or into a car and 'best for last' typically used in reference to the order of a presentation. The two do not need to be in agreement with each other.
(But of course, Ladies are the best. In my highly biased opinion.

I agree.
But--in this crazy world we're livin` in--we need to throw out one of the metaphors and keep the other.
So, which one should we keep 'best': 'escape' (which is usually why 'ladies are first' when getting into a train or car) or 'presentation'?

I think it is said to be as such because we think of our own mothers to be given utmost respect.
