Once you gain weight, the fat cells stays forever

I took a health class last year for fun and I learned that once a person gains weight, more fat cells are produced in the body. When the person loses the weight, the fat cell decreases in size but the number stays high. I think that's why it's so difficult to keep the weight down.
It's really troublesome for me because I tend to stress eat while intending to lose the weight later but the effect of gaining pounds seems to be permenant...
Have you heard of this?

I think that you are right there.I have put on loads of weight over the last year and that is due to health problems and I can never see me going to lose any of what I have put on either, as I can not exercise.
I will say that I use to eat of an evening while at my computer, that all stopped when my blood pressure started to go up higher than ever before.

I agree with you and I am glad I was able to lose some weight I used to be feeling so fat and so stress to lose weight but after controlling my bad eating habit and going to the gym a lot it helped me shred those unlikely fat:-)

Yes, we shouldn't give up on achieving a healthy weight just because we can't do anything about the amount of fat cells. I think that we can still be at a healthy weight even if we had gained weight in the past. Even after knowing that fat cells never go away, I still exercise and try to eat healthy in order to stay at a good weight. Thanks for you response and happy mylotting.

I agree with this.
The moment I started to gain weight, it becomes hard for me to lose weight.
I lose weight sometime- then gain weight again.
It's so frustrating and now I understand why some people resort to liposuction due to this reason.

Yes, now I get it too. I had always thought it was a very bad idea to get liposuction and that we should lose weight by exercising. But it turns out that the only way to get rid of the excess fat cells is by liposuction. I'm still against getting it for myself but it's disheartening to know that the weight I had gained have negative permenant effects on my body. Thanks for your response and happy mylotting.

Yes, because the course was an introductory course on health, I don't have a lot of information on this either. But this fact came from a professor at a public insitution and it was also documented in the textbook so I have no choice but to believe that it is real (although it would be so nice if it wasn't true). Thanks for your response and happy mylotting.

I agree with you. Once we get weight, then it will be hard to lose. But, I was very surprised with a 45 years old man, he was very fat, but just in 1 year he lose his weight and his body became like normal. I asked him how he did it, he said, the key to lose weight is to control our appetite and think a lot.

T_T No wonder every time I lose weight, it comes back again and again. What's worse is it's okay for me to gain weight as long as those bulks are not seen but those bulks always come and go just for a day without exercise.
I was a fatty when I was in grade school, I looked like a ball. After a strict diet & exercise in high school, I managed to weigh down but all the stress in college brought me back out of shape. .

I haven't heard this but it makes sense. That's why nothing I do seems to work. It becomes harder and harder to lose a pound. A few weeks of healthier life and I actually gained weight! The more I gain the harder it is to keep it off, and the more I seem to gain from any method or anything I try.

I haven't heard of that but I would agree. I've recently been trying to lose weight. It is not an easy thing to do. Before in the past I've never really tried to lose weight. Now I'm working on it. I would like to lose thirty pounds but i hate the fact that it takes so long. I hope that I will be able to keep the weight off as well.

You should try to replace your cravings with healthy food instead. Like for example if you get the urge to eat when you are stressed. Try eating apples, oranges, low calorie snacks, blueberries and carrots. I also was overweight and it is with great discipline that I have managed to lose weight. Much more, you must try to do exercises at least three times per week.

Some people who are overweight will make every effort to lose weight. But according to a recent study, once a person becoming obese, she will be difficult to lean back. It seems like it took a long time to reduce them if the fat is already a lot. In addition to being unsightly sight, it also contains a lot of fat disease risk.

maybe that's why other people would choose to invest in surgeries because they get the results rightaway..whereas when you do exercise..yeah you sweat but there isn't really 100% guarantee that you are burning fat.. how ironic, so easy to eat a lot but so hard to lose weight!

I am fat, and I am fine with it. :) I mean...I like eating...and I dont really know if I am going to live long and suffer, or die in any car accident tomorrow. So ...whats the big deal..nobody is ditching me because I am fat...I just try to stay healthy though...dont want to trouble others to take me to hospitals...and do the running about. Other than that, I am comfortable in my skin. :)

I doubt it, from what I had been taught, we have the ability to burn them, ever watched " the biggest losers"? Perhaps genetics also has a role on this.
