Successes and Failures

Doing some research on successes and failures and why do I feel I have more failures then successes?
Fear comes into play when I try to set a goal for myself. I start something but stop in mid stream. An example of this is, I started to fill out an voulunteer application and stopped. I am still trying to figure out why I did that. Was I afraid that I would fail as a volunteer? Was I afraid to try something new?
I found this interesting statement on goal-setting-guide.com
"Fear of failure is one of the greatest fears people have. Fear of failure is closely related to fear of criticism and fear of rejection. Successful people overcome their fear of failure. Fear incapacitates unsuccessful people.
Most people self-limit themselves. Most people do not achieve a fraction of what they are capable of achieving because they are afraid to try because they are afraid they will fail."
Those are hard hitting words to say the least. So, with that said what so you think? Fear of failure or something else like trying something new stopping you from setting your goals?

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well yes u are absolutely right, failure comes when u fear about loosing. This is the biggest mistake most of the people do when they think about failures and the ones who think this way never succeed in achieving their goals rather they succumb to failures. So always stay positive and success will kiss your feet.
What say?

Thanks for your response. Not only does fear stop people in their tracks but can be paralyzing as well. I had a friend who was afraid of squirrels and would stand in one spot screaming and couldn't move a muscle.
Why are we afraid of success? That is very baffling to me. I had been offered a very lucrative position but I tuned it down because I was afraid I couldn't do the job.
