A person who is below 18 years of age, is not eligible for any punishment even if he commits any crime? I am against this kind of law. I think whether it is minor or major. There should be punishment for every criminal. a crime is a crime, then it does not have comparison if it was done by a person above 18 or below. I agree for the difference in punishment. but there should be punishments. What is your say?

Hi!
I agree with you that even if a criminal is shy of 18 years of age, s/he should be awarded a punsihment, if proved guilty.
Law of the land is bit strange which does not prescribe stringent punishment for a criminal who has not attained his adulthood.
These kinds of criminal are subject to trial by Juvenile Boards and are sent to 'Reforms Homes'.
Govenment should do some serious thinking about it and should lower the age so that criminals could be punished.

It is very subjective. Now for crime like theft and robberies or some kind of fraud or cheating and if the child is say 12 or 13, then I can think of juvenile courts and correction homes making sense. But someone who viciously rapes, tortures and kills someone and is like just one month away from being 18, how can one even think of calling him juvenile in any which sense. He is not a juvenile though on a technicality he may be. But do the people really feel that they will change in that one month and become more mature in one month.

I'd say minors can decide themselves... they should still not be above the law and they should be punished for what they did... regardless of their age. many kids or teens have been doing quite a lot of law breaking and not even their parents are called to take responsibility for these kids. their parents should at least be the ones to take the blame if a kid has done something... believe me kids are really intelligent nowadays and they should already know what they are doing. i think that means that they are not ignorant and they know they are doing something wrong.

There definitely should be consequences for illegal behavior no matter what your age. The only question, in my mind, would be to determine what the punishment/consequences would be for the different ages of those under 18. At some young ages, it can be likely that he/she did not even realize that their behavior was illegal or wrong.

I am also in favor of giving punishment to minors if they ever commit something illegal. But their punishment should be not as hard as those given to adult criminals. I think this is best for them to realize their mistakes. We know that those delinquents are more likely to commit more crimes when they get older. I say that they be given punishment that will let them realize that no matter what the circumstances are, only the good thing should be done.

Hi archie
A 18 years person can definitely understand what to do and what no ,So in my view he should be punished but not severely like a criminal , but in a such a way that he should realize what he has done is wrong.
