Too long to read?

I just started a discussion about my family. When I was done I looked at it and thought...nobody is going to read this because it's too long! I guess when I have something on my mind I don't realize how much I've said and wonder if people don't bother to respond to long discussions. Do you always read the whole discussion even if it's very long, do you skim it just getting the gist of it or do you not even bother to read and respond to long discussions?

ctryhnny, i have not noticed nor have i seen your discussion that was too long? (maybe i have skipped that one. haha honestly i do not like to read too long of a discussion especially if my aim for the day is to create and answer as much as i could in mylot (trying to earn more of course is the main goal). Reading too long of a discussion bores me sometimes, and often i feel it is a waste of time reading and finishing up a topic. There were times though that i have followed one topic that was quite long, but that was because the topic and the discussion was very interesting.

I try to keep my discussions as short as I can but keeping within the guidelines of making them as descriptive as possible. But...sometimes the discussion is so important to me I can't help but make it long.

I never thought your discussions were too long...not at all. I've read some that were REALLLLLYYYYY long, but I still read them. As long as it keeps my interest and they have something important to say, then I read it. Sometimes people don't say enough in their discussions and then you have to ask questions to understand the whole thing. I think you do great.

Thank you! I have come across very long discussions that even after reading had no idea what they were saying. I find a lot of these lately and think their from members who don't speak English very well.

hi ctryhnny If the discussion interests me I really do not care how long it is. I will always read a discussion clear through as I hate it when people respond to mine with something so off topic its funny. We are admonished to always read all of the discussion so we can answer intelligently.I admit I get a little teed off when so many say"oh I never respond to long discussions.", As the modern idea is so terse it makes little sense to me. I would rather read a long intelligent discussion than a two sentence puzzle.

Since there are so many people who are not well versed in the English language a lot of times I have to read the whole discussion to figure out what they are talking about.

When I see a much too long story, I glance through it and usually decide against reading it all and answering. There are so many interesting discussions that are not that long, that unless the subject is very interesting for me I prefer to pass.

Sometimes I have to pass them up because they just don't make any sense to me. If I don't understand it how can I respond?

I do read long discussion from start to end so that my comment will be relevant with the topic. It is important to read the whole post whether long or short so that we could write quality and nice comment.

That is so true! Usually when you write from the heart you have a lot to say. When your just writing about every day topics there is usually less to say.

It depends on the situation. Reading through the whole content of a post may help in a better understanding of a discussion. Usually I try reading the whole discussion, regardless of its length, before responding.

Yes, I do the same thing when I'm looking for a discussion to respond to. I think sometimes my response is longer than the discussion and when they are long it is easier to respond to it.

I responded to your topic and it was not very long for me. When it's about family and life, I like those topics because I can easily relate. The topics that really bores me are about sports, I skip those, I have no idea about sports. Don't bother if your topic is too long as long as you have poured your feelings out and it helps you to feel better.
