True, but 50 years ago it wasn't like it is now, so we wouldn't be heading that far back.

Thunder Jug - photo of a pot usually kept under the bed in the old days where no indoor plumbing was available.
Yes I could. As a matter of fact I have experienced it when I was a young girl. My grandparents on both sides of the family lived in a rural area. My paternal grandfather had no indoor plumbing so when I went to visit him we had to have our Saturday night bath in a tub in the kitchen and the water was heated on a oil stove. The "bathroom" was out in the shed and was a "two holer". He had no electricity so we had to go around at night with hurricane lamps. And we didnt have a radio. At my maternal grandparents house we had it a little easier. We still took our Saturday night baths in the kitchen in a tub but had to go outside to the backhouse which was only a "one holer". Water in both houses was supplied by a pump in the kitchen sink. Here tho we had electricity and radio. Winters were the hardest because of the lack of bathrooms....we had "thunder jugs" under the bed so as not to have to go out in the deep snow and roaring winds. There was no central heating so at night the house was pretty cold and believe me so were the "thunder jugs"....bout froze your "cheeks" off. But we had fun....I like to think that those were some of the best and more entertaining days of my life. Young folks today don't appreciate the "luxuries" they have.

Thunder Jug - photo of a slop pail
I have no idea. But it reminds me of a joke. Young rural couple go to big city to buy new bed. Store employee asks what kind. They answer a four poster with one of them things over the top. You mean a canopy?....No sir, that goes under the bed.

No computer, Internet, or radio? Candlesticks? Sponge baths? Going outside in 25 degree weather (like today) to use the outhouse? I think not!

Sure I'd be able to survive, but I'd hate every moment of it. The little things that we take for granted today sure do have a big impact once they're taken away from us so we all better be thankful. I know I am :-)
