from 70's to the 90's PBA have been an iconic part of our country's pop culture. This Basketball Association use to make local stars, its like our local NBA but things seemed to went wrong, Collegiate Basketball leagues like UAAP and NCAA are getting higher ratings than PBA. Before College boys enter the UAAP and NCAA as those 2 are like developmental leagues used as stepping stones to get in PBA.... well now the basketball players rather stick with Collegiate Basketball. so Why do you think PBA declined?

I hate the PBA. Why? Because of many teams changing names over and over again. Purefoods to BMEG to San Mig. What's worse is the San Miguel Beermen changing its name to Petron Blaze. Those are just sick and names. We also have Global Port, Meralco. I think only Ginebra Kings and TNT haven't changed their name in the past few years. What do I like to see as a new PBA is setting the team's names in the places in the Philippines most especially, the provinces. Just like in the NBA man. Why can't Commissioner Chito Salud can't do that? PBA is really boring now, that's why UAAP, I think is the premier basketball league in the country now.

the recent controversy with Balkman and James Yap, seemed like a good publicity stunt for PBA.

perhaps during those times PBA had the hottest stars unlike what they have today, they aren't as appealing as those players at those times. Talentwise, there's no question, I think it's just that people in the Philippines are just too busy making a living than watching TV nowadays.

They need to prioritize local talents again, I have nothing against Americans with Filipino parentage but they were the majority of our basketball league now. before their purpose is to add diversity. Now they ended the diversity.

In my opinion, the PBA declined because after the 90's they put more emphasis and funds on their imports. The local players got overshadowed and of course, the politics that ensued. A known sportscaster did cite this as the reason why the PBA has lost it's flavor. Imagine, a foreigner with questionable Filipino blood (you had to have Filipino lineage to play in the PBA) gets more pay than our best players. The only icon of the PBA who played until the late 90's was Jawo. Before, great players from colleges were slated to play in the PBA. Sadly, now it seems there is little of the college MVP's that do get to play professionally. The PBA needs a makeover. But nothing can ever beat the heyday of Crispa Vs. Toyota.

They should have made a deal with GMA or ABS-CBN but they have a deal with TV 5 instead and from what i know not everyone can get TV5, I dont have Tv 5 on my Tv. I think some people are even shock to know that PBA still exist.

One word to describe PBA's decline over the years - pride. The reason why UAAP and NCAA have more spectators than PBA is because these people are the solid fans of their respective schools. They have school pride and they support their schools. This is also the case in the NBA. Each team has their own set of loyal fans who support their own city representing the NBA. This should be looked at by the PBA and they should try to develop a system wherein the teams would at least represent a city here in our country. The companies owning these teams would then put their brand names after the name of the city - Ex. Manila Gin Kins, or Mandaluyong Bolts.

Before having imposts is a help for them as they add spice to the game but having the majority of the players are imports, people cant relate anymore. right now the Filipino passport holder players are the minority. and yeah instead of having teams named after companies, they should be named after cities and provinces.

Although I am not a PBA fan but I also noticed that PBA's popularity indeed has declined the past few years since I seldom see anyone in here as fanatic as before. I think there are more viewers that would prefer NBA over PBA. I do not know what happened I guess with the accessibility of NBA over TV made viewers prefer them over PBA. I also knew sometime in the past there were controversies that hound the PBA management and also some players did some controversies that place their name a bit unpopular. Plus the fact that they chose a TV channel that is not that popular could be a reason why they are not that watched anymore.

Many claimed that having so many American citezens as the majority of the roster killed PBA, but PBA's defense, is Why people loves the askals when majority of the players there are europeans, but if you compare PBA to Askals, Askals may be Europeans but they represent the Philippines as a team, while PBA teams are so supposed to be a local league. They were for the Filipino audience and they were a whole league not a team.

I also noticed that there was one league called PABL back then. I do not know if they still exist today. Well I do not know maybe there may be some mismanagement in the way the PBA is being run now.
