What about 50 years from now? Does anyone believe that the guns used 50 or 100 years from now will be exactly the same as they are today?
It seems a popular belief of anti-2nd amendment folks that our founding fathers were so stupid, that they actually thought that handheld weaponry would never evolve beyond the musket. Those of us who know history are aware that there were already revolvers that fired faster than a musket and that the machine gun was invented and patented over 70 years prior to the Bill of Rights.
Think about all the weapons, that don't really exist as handheld weapons yet, that have been talked about for over 50 years now. For how long have people talked about laser guns? Even today, we know such a weapon is possible, it's just not feasible with our current technology. With primitive revolvers and machine guns already around, do you really think that the well educated founders, with substantial military experience, were so stupid that they thought muskets, just like those used in the American revolution, would remain the only weapon carried by the common man?

The founding fathers did not give the people the right ot carry a musket they gave us the right to keep and bear Arms which includes any type of weapon. The founding fathers knew that if we were to keep our freedom we must have access to the best weapons available. I beleive that they used the word Arms for just that reason. They could have said the right to bear side arms or musket, which has a totally different meaning.
