How do you look at a photo/painting?How will you define a beautiful work of art?

I find some of my pictures beautiful but others don't see it that way. My mother usually tells me if a picture is not pretty and my dad, who's an artist says differently. I see things differently and so are my friends.
I guess it will take another artist to appreciate a work of art. There people who appreciates arts and there are those who sees visiting galleries as a waste of their valuable time.
How about you? How do you view arts and what do you consider as excellent or very good work of arts?

Though I'm not a pro- artist, but I just love arts and designs and I always get attracted to beauties relating to the drawings.
I had loved drawing pictures of anything from the very childhood. I remember, I used to draw pictures of super-heroes and landscapes and give those to my cousins. When I'm bored and have nothing else to do, I just start drawing unnecessary things..I even made a sketch of my future house, that was like 3 years ago.
I also consider our surroundings a kind of art, personally I can't see things spread out and arranged in an improper manner, I just had to put those things in a proper way, as it distracts you and forces you arrange that.

I think you have an eye for landscape paintings or landscape photography. Landscape photography usually covers spaces, balance in the photos' elements and the color combinations.
Working on landscape painting may take long to produce particularly if it needs detailing. I saw a portrait being done on canvass. The artist only took him a day to work on it. I guess with landscaping it's a little longer.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks again acoustic67scouser.
That is one thing I would like to work on, painting landscapes and on the side, doing portraiture.
Have a great day!

I am always attracted towards nature, and I hope everyone is and paintings related to natural landscapes are the ones which catches your eyes, and yes as you mentioned it takes quite a time to produce the effects and glamour.

But as a viewer, what do you see in a work of art? I would just want to survey how others look at it. For example, in a person, the first thing I really got me attracted to is their eyes. So as I result, I am fond of drawing eyes or look at portraits where eyes are prettily or strikingly attractive.

"Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder" That more or less sums up about why some like what you like and some don't. Through the eyes of an artist as you say your father is things look different in that they look at all the detailed features, the balance, the colour combination - the works. It all depends on what would be your purpose for attaching values to what others appreciate. If it is something that you have created and you want to sell it it will be your good fortune that you would have people liking what you do!
I am not into abstract art like the work of Picasso for instance. I like something that is clear telling a story which could run into pages!

So you are more particular with the message or content of the artwork. Maybe you will appreciate an Expressionist painting or some photographs that dictates movements.
