Photos as Gifts

My sister's birthday is today and I got her a couple of presents. I meant to have an additional one for her, but I couldn't get it together in time. It's a photo. How often do you give photos as gifts? In the one I chose it is of my sister holding Amyra (her newly adopted daughter) to her chest and Amyra's eyes are closed. All you see is basically Mindy's (my sister) arms around Amyra, and she looks as if she's sleeping. I saw it and thought it was something a mother would like. So I want to get some paper and print the photo out at my parent's house. I just need to find the right kind of paper.
Some of the best reactions I've ever gotten from gifts I've given have been photos. My dad told me this past Christmas the best gift I ever got him was when I was twelve. I blew up a picture of me and him (I was two at the time of the picture) and he's holding me and I'm pinching his nose. Next to the picture, because it's one that folds in so it's two sided, is a letter I wrote to him about being a good father.
I've included a picture that isn't the picture I'm using for my sister's gift, but it's so cute I had to share.

I honestly think that photos make a perfect gift. Every year my daughters get their photos done at the portrait studio in Walmart. Then in a Christmas card we send family (parents, brother, my mum's parents, my dad's mum, and even some close friends) a photo of my daughters. I also get a gift out of it obviously ... I mean who wouldn't want photos of their own kids? I think photos are great for any occasion other than just Christmas!

Me too, I think they make fantastic gifts. With my family being so spread out (Australia, all over Canada, and the US) they don't get to see the girls all that often so this way they get to see how they've changed and grown!

Photos can make for nice gifts. So, too, can picture frames.
My boyfriend has a photo of his grandfather at the Wailing Wall. For his birthday, I got a beautiful picture frame for the photo, because it had previously been housed in a cheap plastic frame that was missing half of its base. My boyfriend said that it was one of his favorite birthday gifts ever.

I agree, a nice picture is great and all, but coupled with a nice frame looks amazing!

That is so sweet I bet she loves it. I got a photo from my sister once that was so awesome. Actually it was a photo of both my sisters and I together...and it was in a pillow that says.....sisters are special! There ia a clear plastic envelope in front of the pillow where you can slip the photo....I still have it on display on a bench in my dining room and I was given it about 10 years ago.....photos are a very special gift!

Happy Birthday to your sister! I like the photo idea as a gift. Sometimes the simplist things are the best gifts. Someone took a picture of my dad and I a few years ago and I gave my dad a copy with the saying "I love you dad!" printed on it and made one for myself. Now years later, he's gone, I treasure that photo so much more because it reminds me of our happier times.

I gave my oldest and dearest friend a Christmas gift of a small but really cute photo album that held about 12 photos. I put special photos of myself, my sister and her in the album. We were like the Three Musketeers while my sister was alive. We did all kinds of crazy things together. So, using the photos of the three of us brought a tear to her eyes. She LOVED it! I have to admit, I almost didn't want to hand it over so I told myself that one day I'd make one for myself.
I honestly think that gifts as personal as photographs are some of the best you can give.
(I haven't seen your picture yet because I'm responding from my email notification.)

Yes I've done it frequently. A few years ago my husband gave me a digital camera and printer for my birthday. I'd really wanted the camera.. didn't care as much about the printer, but used it anyway. My birthday is the same week as Mother's Day, so I got immediate use out of the printer. I printed a picture of our kids (4 of them at the time) to give to his mother as a gift.

Pictures can be very nice gifts. All the world in a picture. In a home made frame or fancy bought one. I just had my granddaughter bring some pictures over from my ex's place. Such cute ones of when she was younger and some of my daughter was pregnant with her. What memories.

This is really such a lovely photo. I love photos as gifts and have one narrow long table against a wall that contain my black and white photos of my family from I was a child. Some go back to the 1850's of relatives up to my wedding.
Yes, I haave them on my pc but I like to see them around me and often change them. My son is here on vacation and he brought two photos of me from when I was yung. One is when I am wearing my first cocktail dress and think that I was baout 18 at the time. The other is a fabulous photo of my sisters and myself. I was so happy to receive them that I immediately bought frames for them and put them with my black and white photographs. I am writing on the back of all photos so the children will know about the event and the people in the photos.

hmmm.. yes, that's very very sweet and thoughtful gift. My sister thought this too, she bought picture frames for christmas gifts because she had no money that time. but she wanted to be creative, so she dug all the old photos of everyone, we have lots, then put in the frame and give as christmas present. My nieces and nephews who are now grown and with own families were surprised to see how they looked when they were young.. and they were so happy even if they looked weird on those photos. LOL
yes, this is sweet, so personal and very thoughtful indeed.

For adult people, the best gifts they would have are memories and photos are one of those. Photos and letters reminds them how special they are and how special are those happy moments that have passed. I admire your thoughtfulness, most of the time, it's enough for other people to give gifts as long as they have something to give. What you're doing is making the occassion special, keep it up!

You got a [point, one of the best gift in life is something related to the past that will make someone touch his heart. The picture is a treasure for the concern as proof of you really treasure that part of his life now only on his memories.
