Facebook: Do you know this X and Y??????

hi friends. well i am not exactly a fan of facebook but for some other purpose i needed a facebook account so created one using my gmail id.
no problem so far but the thing is i keep getting messages from facebook all the time.
it goes something like "do you know this X and Y?".
at first i really did not care for it but recently it kinda changed.
Usually it uses some of my contacts name inplace of X and Y and most of the time it changes name.
but recently i getting the same 2 names for X and Y.
so i am curious.
is Facebook sending these mails as a promotional ones or are those 2 people sending me friends request?
can anyone explain this to me?

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i can understand your situation and i know u must be having many questions after seeing such mails. To be very honest, face book sends so many mails to every one every day so u should not get worried about this, face book is trying to expand its fan base and this is one of its measures. so u try to avoid such mails.
What say?

its just that i had a tiff with one of them and seeing these mails make me wonder if this was some kinda olive branch.
but if it just facebook promotion, i would look incredibly stupid sending a friendship request though.
such a dilemma.

facebook helps its users to find more and more friends..when someone sends you friend request you get a notification, but what you talking about is friend suggestion from facebook..for this facebook uses the data provided by you in your profile, it may be according to place, college, school and no. of mutual friends in most of the cases..you may see sometimes a list of people on the right side with a title- people you may know. there is nothing to worry about it..you can use the account and privacy settings as you want and also can change when you want..

Facebook is just helping you to find friends. And they usually use those people who are friends with your friends.

Hi friend, I understood that you are quite new in the Facebook. Facebook everyday send you so many mails about your friends activities. You should not be worried about it. Facebook wants e-mail address of your known persons to offer you opportunity for making friendship with them. Have a nice day.

Maybe you and x and y have so many mutual friends together. Maybe x and y searched you on Facebook a lot or you did too vice versa. Hmm. I think Facebook keeps track of those things. I remember stalking the girl my ex was cheating on me with and then Facebook kept on recommending her to me. I never added her of course but the. Wth Facebook.

Ah i remember having such in my email, but i think these are just notifications from facebook suggesting you might know a certain person because a friend of yours happen to be friends with that person as well. I do not receive this anymore because i do not subscribe to notifications because it makes my email so full, and that it has no use for me at all.

Sometimes Facebook does suggest friends for you. It could also be that if you already gave someone your Gmail address then they might have started looking for you on Facebook using that. There is a way you can turn that off in Privacy Settings. You can set it to not receive notifications or not be searchable on Facebook by anyone.
