My sister is selling her car and I have asked a family member to ask for me about it. Well the family member did and my sister said that they would sell it to me, but first they wanted to get it inspected. It's been sitting at another relatives house and they had no idea that they let something go wrong with it. I am excited. I know what a lot of you may say, sure it's family but be careful and don't get jipped. I'm gonna say this. I know my family and I know I can trust them. My sister's husband makes sure his cars run fine and he would make sure the same before he sold it. To anyone. So in any case, I will pay a down payment via my tax money and then pay a monthly bill until I get it paid off. I"ll be sure to record what has been given though. For my sake, as well as for my sister's. Okay, so this car won't just be for me, it will be for my grandmother (or so she says) aswell.

It's good that you are getting a car. I'm unclear as to why your grandmother is under the impression that a car that you're paying for with your own money will "for her" as well, though. She doesn't have ideas that she's going to be driving it, does she?

Yes she does, but I say "yeah right" in a way because she's not driven in years. She just had both her cataracts done and so she can see better. She has to take a test and will most likely have to do both the written and driving test since it's been so long. I'm not quite worried about it to be honest because I don't think that she will get her license. Not that they won't give it to her or anything, they may very well provided she passes the tests, it's just getting someone to take her. She also puts things off a lot.

It's good that she would have to re-test. I was thinking that you might need to have her license removed; thankfully, you don't have to do that. We did that with my boyfriend's mother. I saw that she was unfit to be on the road (and had received a diagnosis of dementia), and we arranged to have the license removed. We played clueless when the letter came that said that she had to be re-tested. A year later, she was headed into a nursing home. She could have likely delayed that move if she would have been in assisted living to start with--not taken the fall she did--but she had moved into a senior apartment building instead when she sold her house and had the money to go into any nice tiered care she wanted.

She keeps saying she will re-test, and she might just. I almost assume that when she does want to retest I will be the one to take her. She will most likely ask me over her husband and I won't be able to refuse. When she did drive she was always one to look around, try to find any relatives on the road driving too. She fell asleep at a traffic light atleast three times that I remember. I have great news though, I may not have to pay for the car at all.

That is great news hun, congratulations! I honestly couldn't imagine my life without my car. My boyfriend, daughters, and I live in a village that is about a ten minute drive from the city so anytime we need anything we have to go into the city as their are no services out here! Also if their were ever an emergency an ambulance bill can sure be costly! Hope you enjoy your new ride, and it all works out!

That will be nice for you. Wonder how much the insurance will be? If it has been setting you probably want to have the tires checked or replaced. Rubber raughts. A bill of sale to define the amount might be a good idea.

I was going to check walmart for those receipt things you can buy, or the dollar store as I know they have them as well. It hasn't been sitting for too terribly long I don't think but they will be doing an inspection as well.

I think if you have all the information on a sheet of paper that would be fine. That is how I have done mine in the past.

I hope that it all goes according to plan! And that you'd soon be driving this car. It'll be great to help you around getting to work, or just going to places where you normally couldn't. And it's great that they'll let you do a monthly bill on it. Hopefully they don't charge you interest.

or at all, which is the newest batch of good news. I was told yesterday by my sis, that she'd have to talk to her hubs, but that they most likely won't charge me a red cent.

Hi there cowgirl! that is indeed a good news. and i am sure since she is your sister she will be transparent as to the current state of the car you are buying from her, you could always get back to her when something happens, right?

One way for you to keep track of your payments is to write up a payment agreement. Something to the effect of: I, SomeCowgirl, am purchasing a Packard from So-and-So for the amount of $100. On today's date, Feb2013, I have made a down payment of $10 and agree to pay $10 per month for 9 months. Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov $10 SC S&S Signed: Buyer: SomeCowgirl Seller: So-and-So Then both of you sign the agreement and Both of you have a copy. When you make the payment, Both of you put your initials where you made the payment for each month on both copies. This is one way the both of you definitely know that you made the payments.

I forgot to mention to put the Vehicle Identification Number on the payment agreement, too.

Thank you for the example of a good write up agreement. My sister and I both have the same initial, so a full on signature would probably be better. Though I talked to her yesterday and she told me that she'd talk to her hubs, but most likely I won't pay a penny.

I do know that there are some families that will screw anyone and everyone. However, I know that when I am dealing with members of my own family, this would not be something that would be the case. Our family has sold vehicles from one family member to another for almost as long as I can remember and there has never been a time that someone has ripped off another member of the family. The only time that a car that we had gotten from another family member really didn't last that long was my sister's first car and she totaled it in an accident. Best of luck to you with your new car.

I have even better news, I most likely won't have to pay for it at all. Long story short, they may just sign it over to me.

That is great that you are buying a car. It will help you out a great deal. I am filing my taxes later on this week and hope to get something back so I can put it aside so I can save up for my trip to Idaho (Randy's home state) for his high school reunion and to see his aunt who will be 90 later on this year. Just keep accurate records on how much you give.

I am going to check walmart or the dollar store for those receipt things you can get, and if I can't find anything I'll write out a kind of worksheet for it. With the date and the amount given. I hope you get a good chunk back. I'll be getting a good chunk back myself, more then I had expected.
