Is it right to kill flowers for a relationship?

Couple of years ago, I had a thought in mind. Flowers are parts of living plants. When we pluck them those plants get hurt. But they have always been taken as important part of romantic relationships. Many women complain when their boyfriends or husbands don't gift them flowers. Just a few days ago, someone made a Valentine's day cartoon where he showed a guy holding a flower in front front of his lady love and saying with a smiling face, "I killed this for you". My own boyfriend gave me plastic flowers on Valentine's day as he thinks the real ones die and thus they are useless. What's your take on the thing that we kill flowers to make our loved one happy?

I still love receiving fresh ones. It is quite odd to receive fake ones. LOL.
Flowers were created to make someone happy. It is giving life and hope to people in bed... it shows love and appreciation of a child to a mother. Doesn't mean killing as in killing... they will still bloom again and sprout new buds for a new person's happiness and delight.
Plants need to be pruned... it helps them regenerate new stems, leaves and buds.
if your BF told you.. "I will kill this for you" holding another man's head... then that is something different. means he is jealous hahaha. .joke

Oh no, I did not take it seriously. We both have business major. So we often look for advantages and disadvantages in financial matters.

Sorry I've misunderstood.
Yep. It is a waste of money.
We can always walk out into our yards (or the neighbors garden) and pluck some up for free. Sure it may have been marked by a stray dog of cat, but its the thought that counts right? Yeah!
[i]I'm joking, people!
Maybe for every flower we pick we can plant a new one. Kind of like we do with trees on Arbor day.
Idk. I do see what you're saying though.

Yes, I am actually more interested in stealing. Saves money, doesn't it? I think these days people are shifting their interest to plants. When my dad was in the hospital a year ago his office sent him a bucket of plants in soil with a note get well soon. I also notice that in bay area of California where Asian culture is huge, many people prefer to gift each other bamboo plants. I like that. At least, they live for quite a long time.

The talk is about gifting. We usually don't gift anyone carrots and vegetables. I am not saying it is wrong. Also gifting flowers has been going on for centuries. Personally, I see it as waste of money. But at the same time, the cartoon did trigger the thought in me that flowers almost make plants shine and we separate them from one another and then kill the flowers to keep our relationships alive.

Very true, we have been plucking flowers for several years now. They are used in so many events that some even turned it into a booming business. Just like you personalliy, I don't like to get flowers from anyone. Just as you said, they are a waste of money because they eventually die. Also they are highly expensive in some areas.

Plants, animals, humans, they have their own rule to play in this world. I don't find anything wrong plucking flowers to give it to someone special. Although I like them better as plants in places like yards or balcony, like adding color and life especially to our homes. What I won't agree is just plucking them then throw away in garbage cans.

As for now, we only have one plant with flowers because it's still cold in here. But last summer, the flowers were amazing. there is this one plant I'm planning to buy, do you know that plant that eats insects? it's the same plant in plants vs zombies that eats the zombie. It's just hard to remember the name in romanian and i don't know the english name.

Your words are perfectly right not only in a right way, but all means.
Not to puck the flowers is a good habit for all who likes their fragrance and beauty.
I never used to tear any branch of flower plant.
Even God also rejects flower worship.
But people are not showing interest on flower's feeling while of plucking.
There is strictly no need to use any type of flowers at all to regularize human relations at any stage in my words.

I was told that the plants sleep too just like us. The tradition of plucking flowers has made us overlook the fact that they get hurt. But again, many of our foods are plucked too. Perhaps, that also leaves the plants in pain. But as you said, we should not add this to human relationships. What an irony! To save one we kill one.

At least in a romantic relationship, you shud do whatever makes you romantic. If you feel not to use green blood, its ok, dont use it, at least for the sake of a tuned romance. But if someone feels, others r practicing a wrong thing, that makes un-necessary contradiction. The rule of the game is "Survival of the fittest". After all flowers are symbols of good relationship. So it is used widely. The intention is good. I dont find anything wrong in such type of murder. And about plastics, by using it in excess may destroy the whole planet. Thank you.

There is nothing wrong in gifting flowers. But the problem is the word "Kill". That is what the cartoon tried to say indirectly. The whole notion of survival of the fittest is not accurate at least during this modern day since it does signal that to survive, it is okay to forget what is right and wrong. Plastic is harmful if thrown in incorrect trash can. That goes for the bottles. We usually don't throw away artificial flowers. My mom still has the ones she bought before my birth.

True, survival of fittest is not accurate in this context at least. I do admit it. And moreover do the right things at least in romance ... lol. And about plastic, i didnt think to hurt u in any manner. Still every object we keep has a definite time, let it be in year or in generation. After that it is fit for the dustbin.

Hi!
You have a very valid point to make.
plucking flowers is like killing living beings.
But what to do many do farming of plants for the sake or getting flowers and trade of flowers runs in millions.
If you think seriously on this issue then we just cannot eat non vegetarian dishes and can not even drink the milk of cow etc.
Plastic flowers can not be a good substitute of natural flowers.

Actually if they are cut correctly more will grow in their stead. This isn't always the case so some are hurt. I hope you will educate your boyfriend about flowers though so he won't think that they always die.

Flowers were created for beauty and they just die on the vine if not picked. I think that some people are just overly sensitive about things.

I don't think that flowers are a great present for valentine's day and it is because the same reason you mentioned that we are just killing a living plant to give them to someone. They then later die and are kind of a waste of money. The best valentine's day gifts in my opinion are things that you can do with your partner such as going out to dinner or watching a movie or something.
I'm looking forward to valentine's day though because I look for any excuse to spoil my girlfriend and get her awesome presents. I'm hoping that I won't have to work a double shift at my jobs so that way my girlfriend and I can actually spend some time together on valentine's day.

Yes you have a really good point. I guess I never really thought about it that way. I never get flowers. The last time I had flowers was probably eight years. Now that I have read this and really thought about it I probably will not get or give flowers again. Fake flowers can be nice and like you said they last longer. And we can really look around to try and find nicer fake ones.

Hi divineathena.
Though your logic is correct but it is not rational. If you think that way there are lot of things we do and things we use that might hurt those trees and plants. But that is how the things are. So unless the activity is causing a serious threat for the species we should accept those activities as part of life. For instance, one should not worry about killing chickens for eating because there are plenty of them and they are not going to get extinct.
Have a nice day !!
