I know things can happen. And things can come up. But the people at my job can get to be late everyday they have to show up for work. I am getting tired of it. I dont know if I will get relieved on time or not. And I got two kids I have to get off to school in the mornings. And when I dont get relieved on time then they are latr for school. I have tried reasoning with them asking them to please come to work on time but nothing works with these people. Uggh!

It's really annoying that when we meet this kind of coworkers. But I think your boss should understand your situation, if your co workers come to work late, it's their fault, why should you bear it? I feel if you do your job and you finish doing it, it's your freedom to leave. It's not fair to stay longer.

I have been looking for anothef job any ways. But.I work in a prison and it isnt a job you can just leave your post unattended while the other person is late. You have to stay on post for the safety of the inmates and workers. And also the safety of the public. But I am looking for more suitable work.

If things go on like this, and your boss just ignore it, I think if you have another good chance, you can leave and find another suitable job , for your kids.

You are a reponsible man. Considering the special job you do, it's really not good to leave your post while the other person is late. Sorry about that. I am sure you will find another suitable job soon.

It is unfortunate that your co-workers do not respect your time. have you tried saying something to your supervisor about your co-workers tardiness? or if that does not help do you have to stay there until someone shows up? Maybe you can set up an agreement with your boss to leave on time even if no one is there to relieve you.

Yes I have spoken to my supervisor and theirs and nothing has been done about it. I have spoken with the cheif of security to and still nothing. I have to stay until someone shows up. And we are so short handed they cant send anyone to relieve me on time. It gets so aggravating.

If supervisor cannot respect you enough to enforce company policy then go over their heads and talk with someone in HR or corporate. Being short handed is no excuse for allowing people to be tardy. I hope you find a better job where your supervisor and workers respect one another.

No... you are not required to stay over time if you have finished your job already and you don't overstay during breaktimes. it is just okay. As long you are done . no problem.

Can they make up for being late by working through lunch or staying late?

you have to manage the time well with the following ways: 1. looking for family-friendly workplace the point here is to find a workplace that is thinking about family circumstances, e.g. flexible hours for working parents, especially women. With the flexibility and understanding given by the company at work, we can use that time for the family. 2. adjust your work schedule try to negotiate with your boss or the HR of your company to rearrange work schedules to start work later and ending work more late. In this way, we still managed to take the kids to school.
